Gwangju Station is on South Korea's high-speed KTX railway network, 353km south of Yongsan Station.

The station opened on July 1, 1922 and the station building was moved to its present location on July 25, 1969. On August 10, 2000, Gwangju Station was connected to the Gyeongjeon Line via Hyocheon and Songjeong-ri to become the terminal station of the Gwangju Line. KTX trains on a spur of the Honam Line, following the Gwangju Line, began services on April 1, 2004.

Gwangju Station serves some KTX trains on the Honam Line. It also has express services and local services on the Gwangju Line. Gwangju Station is not connected to Gwangju's subway network.
