[edit] Early Career
When Guy was 16 he had a motorcycle road accident, which he came out of uninjured, and after this he decided to follow his father Ians footsteps by racing motorcycles. He was a promising young talent until he lost his English competition license after a falling out with a race official which ended up with Guy injuring the officials hand by crushing it in the laptop he was using. After this the only place for Guy to race was the roads, so he moved to Ireland and joined the Uel Duncan Racing team where he impressed. After impressing many teams they were chasing him for the 2006 season.
[edit] AIM Yamaha
In 2006 Guy raced for Alistair Flanagans AIM Yamaha race team. His first race for the team was actually in the 2005 Macau GP with team mate Adrian Archibald who later pulled out of the team. During the 2006 season Guy was allowed to race on the English circuits again, taking part in some British Supersport championship. He also participatd in the 3 Scarbrough racing events at Olivers Mount - the Ian Watson Spring National, the Cock o' the North and the Gold Cup meeting in which Guy won the prestigious Gold Cup equaling Geoff Dukes record of 4 in a row. The Internation road race meetings had mixed results the North West 200 never went particularly well, The Isle of Man TT looked promising after practice but bike problems soon led to it being another disappointment though at the final international of the year the Ulster Grand Prix, Guy took 4 race wins and a 2nd making him the man of the meeting. After these results many teams were chasing him for his signature.
[edit] Hydrex Honda
Hydrex Honda were the team that secured Guy's signature for the 2007 season. In the early season Guy took part in British Superbike and Supersport rounds to prepare for the road racing season. The first road race of the season was the Ian Watson Spring National in which Guy impressed at, then came the first major international of the year the North West 200 which Guy put up a superb showing finishing with an 8th a 4th two 3rds and a 2nd. The most impressive result being in the CP Hire Superstock race as after a bad start Guy fought through to finish 3rd. The Isle of Man TT was the next major race on the calendar and Guy got a 3rd two 2nds and a DNF after running out of fuel with less than 3 miles to go until his first pit stop. Guy continued to race on the English scene and then he regainged his Cock o' the North title at the Scarbrough circuit before jetting over to Ireland for the Kells Road Races in which he took one race win. This was preparation for the Ulster Grand Prix which was delayed for two hours due to bad weather and in the first race Guy brought home a 5th position, in race 2 a win and in the superbike race which was shortenend due to weather a 2nd. After this red flag the days racing was cancelled dut to bad weather and that meant for the 2nd year in a row Guy was the man of the meeting. The Scarbrough Gold Cup meeting was yet again a Guy Martin show with him winning all the races on the final day including the Gold Cup, so now Guy has won 5 Gold Cups in a row a new record and he has also won the same number of Gold Cups as Geoff Duke and David Jefferies. The Macau GP was going well with Guy constantly being in the top 4 until final qualifying when in the last minutes he came off at the Moorish section of the circuit and broke his arm and wrist. Therefore Guy did not take part in the race.
