automated user page deletions?

If you're using a bot to automate user page deletions, it might be a good idea to note that in the deletion summary. For example, "bot - automated deletion of temporary user page..." would do. Just a suggestion. :) --Ixfd64 09:27, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Messageboxes

Hello Gurch! I have been making some messageboxes, and I'd like you to tell me what you think of them. (Actual displays of them are on my userpage.) Please take a look and let me know your opinion on my talk page! (Of course, you are more than welcome to use them; it's a Wiki world!)

No it wasn't vandalism. I was putting in a peak position on the album chart and must of erased it by accident. 218.101.65.157 12:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

User:Sussexman

You have arbitrarily deleted my User Page. I have appealed against the block and await a result. I have made many good contributons to Wikipedia and I believe that you are out of order with this deletion. Please reinstate my User page or leave a message on my talk page as to whose instructions you are following in this matter so that I can take the matter further. 213.122.18.37 16:28, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Your note

Thank you, Gurch, for sorting this out. Where was this proposal to delete pages originally made? I think it needs to be stopped, because all kinds of pages were deleted that were very important to keep (some of the most notorious sockpuppet accounts were deleted), and even non-sockpuppet pages need to be kept too. If a very troublesome user is indefblocked, we need to keep the evidence of his talk page discussions in case he turns up again. Deleting history means that history will repeat itself. :-) Where can I post centrally about this to ask people to stop it? SlimVirgin (talk) 21:27, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

This can't be decided privately between a few people on IRC but has to be discussed on Wikipedia, because it's affecting a lot of people, and important talk pages are being deleted en masse. Where is the best place on Wikipedia to discuss it centrally? SlimVirgin (talk) 23:59, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks...

Annoying vandals... I thought i was REALLY blocked, but turned out it was just silly vandals playing with my user page. Thanks for reverting that.Ollie the Magic Skater 03:46, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Sandbox mfd - why?

Why are you nominating all the sandbox pages for deletion? The sandbox pages help to strengthen Wikipedia's sense of community, yet you are determined to destroy some of the main community activity pages where users can have fun and enjoy themselves. Stressed wikipedians are not effective. Please reconcider your stance on the mfd of the sandbox pages. Think outside the box 09:39, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

pointless

I see you deleted WP:You told a developer to get stuffed and now you have the cheek to complain that your user scripts are playing up? as pointless. It wasn't pointless, it was an attempt at humour. Inspired by other, similarly humorous redirects. Still, it's gone now. Would have been nice if you had dropped me a line. There's no point having a pointless argument about it, I'm sure you feel IAR or SNOW covers it, and who am I to argue? Not sure I could completely disagree, but I couldn't see the harm in it either. Still, happy editing. Steve block Talk 23:16, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of Eskimism

Hi, I see you deleted Eskimism after I nominated it for a speedy delete. You may be interested to know that the creator of the page put it straight back up again. Someone else has listed it for a normal delete. Dunno if you just want to get rid of it again regardless or anything. Just thought I'd let you know. Phileas 03:01, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

History of Taichung

If the user had any history, maybe I would think it's an article split, but this is the only edit for him (when I tagged it). I've seen cases in the past were people just copied content into multiple articles without doing a proper split. Nothing was put in th edit summary to explain what was happening, and no response has been made in the user talk page. Also, depsite the fact he has changed Taichung there is still duplication. Also note, the user has now just made edits to Taiwan that have been reverted. --ArmadilloFromHell 06:16, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

eskimism?

hello! i am the spokesperson of the religion known as Eskimism. Can I ask why did you delete the article? It was, and still is, a trial for the religion to see if it will be recognised as one of the known "ism" groups of Tasmania. Can I perhaps see if I, on behalf of the team of Eskimism, ask if we could please have 'Eskimism' unprotected and undeleted if able to? thank you Yours Sincerely, Gogorox93 08:16, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

deletion question

Hi Gurch,

Can I ask you why the page on simchronise had been deleted and the talk about the deletion ignored or no longer availlable? I thought a talk was two ways. am I missing something in the process? What criteria have you used before deciding to delete it?

I do not get how a number of companies I see in wikipedia are not submitted for deletion when this company which is completely relevant to its industry is speedy deleted for blatant advertising.

Can you explain what was blatant advertising in the simchronise article?

Sorry if it sounds a bit straight forward, but I'd like to understand.

Cheers for your feedback

List of Silver Anniversary Awards (NCAA) Receipients

Gurch: As someone relatively new to Wikipedia (about 3 months), I am curious about the resolution of the page I marked as a candidate for deletion > List of Silver Anniversary Awards (NCAA) Receipients. I see that it has been made a redirect page as opposed to deleting it. The reason I was suggesting it for deletion was the incorrect spelling of "Receipient." That error in the page name was created by a typo (I should know, I am the fat-fingered, bonehead who created it). Since the page had no links to or from it, was empty and, due to the typo, really isn't an effective redirect page ("Receipient" is not a commn mis-spelling of "Recipient"), I proposed it for deletion. I was wondering why it was not deleted. Would you please enlighten me? Tlmclain | Talk 23:01, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Gurch: Thanks for the explanation. I'll leave it as it is and not waste anybody else's time with it. Tlmclain | Talk 02:01, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism reporting question

I'm new to Wiki, and I recently reverted a number of vandalism changes to Giorgio_Morandi (I saw you as an earlier editor). I wanted to leave a message for User 212.219.59.222 (Harrow School, with a history of vandalism), but I couldn't find a way on their Talk page. Could I bother you to ask what I'm missing? Thanks. No problem. This has been sort of a surprise for me, a way of doing a little penance for being pissy about this change in image-usage policy. I still think it shortsighted, but thanks to Alan Light we may not be as short on free-use celebrity pics as I thought. Daniel Case 06:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

eskimism . . . again

Yes. Yes, you do have a point. I hope you don't poke anyone with it! Get it? It's a joke. =) But upon reading the content in the original article of Eskimism, I see that it was merely as "attention-seeking" as some of the bands that have an article in Wikipedia, aswell as becoming "recognised" as this has certain similarities with these band articles I am stating of. Also, what is the chance of somebody actually typing in the letters E-S-K-I-M-I-S-M and just so finding the article by chance? Very slim indeed. So, this is not an act of begging, the Eskimism Team are lodging a formal statement as follows: May you, or any other administrator that has the correct privileges, please undisable, unprotect or undelete the article "Eskimism" on behalf of Wikipedia Inc.? Your doing so would be greatly appreciated and well thanked upon. Thankyou. Yours Sincerely, Gogorox93 Gogorox93 10:19, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Article Deletion

Hi Gurch,

My name is Vincent Scuderi and I am an Architecture student at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. At the end of October, we were told that as a requirement of a major piece of assessment, we were to post an article that we wrote on a place that was special and important to us, onto the Wikipedia website. So, this I did, registering as a new user and posting my article, and then sending the link to my lecturer so that she could see it. My article was titled "St. Vincent's Hostel, South Brisbane". However, when I logged onto the internet a few nights ago, it was to my disbelief that my article had been deleted.

I emailed another person in regards to this matter and he has referred me to you. Now I don't exactly understand why it is you deleted my article...?? Firstly, it has been written about a REAL place in the suburb of South Brisbane, in Brisbane. Secondly, any text that I have taken from other sources has been referenced at the bottom of the exerpt. And thirdly, St. Vincent's Hostel - in accordance with the Wikipedia Deletion Criteria - is not a "company".

Would it be at all possible to for you to look into this matter and get in contact with me as to what is going to happen. I would really appreciate it if my article could be put back onto the site again.

Regards,

Vince. Vincent Scuderi 02:45, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Repair it, please

MonteChristof wrote on MediaWiki talk:Noarticletext:

Please... I'd like to ask someone (admin preffered) to revert the changes made by Gruch tooday. It causes crash on empty sites - there's no text visible in template and there are some problems with links... MonteChristof 18:44, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for fixing the problem, if there was one. Though I think reverting the unrelated change I made in August was a little excessive. Can you give me more detail on the actual problem? Did you see anything yourself, or were you just responding to User:MonteChristof's request? If you did notice anything, can you tell me which page (or rather non-page) you were looking at, what was wrong with the output, and in particular which links were broken? Thanks – Gurch 01:27, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to revert August's changes as well as the current ones. I didn't notice any problems, but perhaps it looked quite wrong in non-monobook skins? —Mets501 (talk) 02:34, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok. Now it's fixed. The problem was the template, you have changed also the tagging space so the template wasn't properly viewed by some of explorers, espetialy on other skins. I'm not quite sure what exacly caused that problem... Half of the text was covered by white space - so text body was wisible, but content of template not. The space seemed to behave like somekind of white layer - and caused lags on IE and Conqueror. It could have been one of subtemplates... Thanx for fixing... MonteChristof 10:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Heads Up

I've got a really bad feeling about User:LuckyBuck. Watch out for sockpuppets. Related to this, could you tell me the policy for reporting sockpuppets if they show up? Thanks. DoomsDay349 01:04, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Deleted page "Distributed Processing Technology"

Dear Gurch,

I just recieved your deletion notice concerning my article about Distributed Processing Technology, and found it pressing to let you know why DPT was such an important company.

DPT held the title of being the WORLD LEADER in SCSI and RAID Technology, and was the first company to manufacture these products. Stephen Goldman was on the board of scientific developers who initiated the RAID and SCSI technologies, (see related articles) and is extremely well known and respected to this date in the engineering industry. DPT was one of the biggest corporate contributers not only to this field of computer science, but also the technology-related economy in central Florida. It was purchased by Adaptec for $250,000,000 !

I was both suprised and offset to see how hastily you deleted this entry, obviously with little to no knowledge of the subject matter.

I kindly and respectfully ask you to promptly reply to my concerns.

Thank you. --Youknowyouknowmyname 09:25, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Why is CHR Global being deleted again

A tag has been placed on CHR Global, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article is a repost of either already posted material, or of material that was previously deleted under Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. If you can indicate how CHR Global is different from all other articles, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}}, and also put a note on Talk:CHR Global saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we ask you to follow these instructions.

Reposting deleted material

  • Please do not repost material deleted in accordance with policy, especially by trying to do so under varying titles. Such behavior will get you blocked. Thanks. - Lucky 6.9 00:16, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Because it's been deleted several times per policy and per consensus. You should check the no personal attacks clause while you're at it. - Lucky 6.9 00:17, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
  • The problem is, it's either a non-notable company or it's still reading as an advertisement. If you can write an article that doesn't sound like an ad and establishes its notability, it will likely be able to remain here. Tell you what: Take another whack at it and if it's still a bit commercial, I'll try and clean it up. Good luck. - Lucky 6.9 00:24, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Looks like you beat me to it. Much better. You may want to reupload the company logo, though. I went ahead and deleted it. - Lucky 6.9 00:25, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Real good. Just doing my job on this end. Thanks for the contribution and thanks for being a good sport. - Lucky 6.900:28, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Deleted page "Hammer of Truth"

A page you created, or image you uploaded, Hammer of Truth, has been deleted in accordance with our deletion policy. In particular, it meets the one or more criteria for speedy deletion; the relevant criterion is:

Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject.

Wikipedia has certain standards for inclusion that all articles must meet. Certain types of article must establish the notability of their subject by asserting its importance or significance. Additionally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, content inappropriate for an encyclopedia, or content that would be more suited to somewhere else (such as a directory or social networking website) is not acceptable. See What Wikipedia is not for the relevant policy.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable notability guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content; it will be deleted again and may be protected from re-creation.
