Guru Josh was the first star of live performances of the early 1990s British acid house music scene, on the back of the 1989 single, "Infinity (1990s... Time For The Guru)" (UK # 5, Germany #2, Australia #4). A track which, in radio edit form, has gone on to feature on a large number of compilations of 'old skool' house music. It has recently become one of the most remixed dance tracks. In the first few months of 2008 it has been remixed 21 times by such as Tiesto Mark Norman, klass, Jerome Phaser and others.
Guru Josh was the first dance star to perform stadium shows.
Guru Josh was an alias for Paul Walden, who began his career as an entertainer and keyboard player at the Sands nightclub, Jersey, performing under the name of Syndrone. Following the release of "Infinity", his debut single, Walden soon fell out of favour with the music press when his album, also titled Infinity, came out. It received mixed reviews. Notwithstanding , the album sold 900,000 units. Walden admitted in an interview that he was a supporter of the Conservative Party which was in power at the time.
Guru Josh also released several other singles: "Freaky Dreamer", "Holographic Dreams", "Whose Law (Is It Anyway?)" (UK #5, Ger #1, Australia #1) (all from 1990) and "Hallelujah" (in 1991), although none of them proved to be anywhere near as popular as his first single. He had most success in Europe and reached No 1 in 10 countries.
In 1991 he moved into multimedia production as the driving force and finance behind Dr Devious and the Wisemen, creating the acclaimed Dance In Cyberspace series of music videos in collaboration with Darrel Jameson, Guy Labbé, Dave 'Flipping Mental' Evans, Marcus Pennell, and others.
In 2001 the noise music act V/Vm released mangled up versions of "Infinity" (subtitled "No Time For The Guru"), "Whose Law (Is It Anyway?)" and "Louie Louie" as a 7" single entitled "Infinity: The VVMCPS Abolish Copyright Anthem".
After 3 years experimenting he created a new form of Art under the name "Louie Fabrix". This illuminated 3D glass art sold out in exhibitions in New York, Madrid, Paris and Berlin receiving acclaim from some art critics. In 2006 Walden built a new laboratory in Ibiza and created a company (www.worksinglass.com). Due to worldwide demand for his unique designs, Walden has recently trained a team of talented artisans now working exclusive for his company.
In 2007 he signed a new worldwide recording contract under the name "The Guru Josh Project".
