Gurner’s Lane (born 1978 in New Zealand) was a notable thoroughbred racehorse who competed in Australia. He was a chestnut gelding, the son of the champion sire Sir Tristram from the Sovereign Edition mare Taiona.
He is best remembered for completing the ‘Cups Double’ by winning the 1982 VRC Melbourne Cup and VATC Caulfield Cup.
His win in the Melbourne Cup was achieved by beating the champion Kingston Town who looked to have the race won for most of the way down the finishing straight.
An excellent stayer amongst his other major wins were the 1982 AJC and VRC St Leger Stakes.
