Surely the phrase "gunboat diplomacy" originated with the fleet of Matthew Perry? Has anyone researched this? Slac speak up! 10:09, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I think it was well established technique before then. Not sure if the term came before or after Perry. But I am very suprised that Matthew C. Perry isn't mentioned at all in this article.--ZayZayEM 04:04, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

...what about the most recent events with Iran...don't feel like signing this or what not...just someone who comes across this may want to think about adding a 21st century section.

[edit] Modern contexts

definately the mathew perry thing with Japan should have its own page in wiki Anyone else think the paragraph on 'Modern contexts' lacks neutrality in its tone? Chwyatt 09:00, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Feel free to reword anything I've written to make it sound less biased. sf46 13:46, 25 October 2007 (CST)
