Gunnhild

Gunnhild or Gunnhildr (Battle-maiden) is an Old Norse name belonging to several people from the history of Scandinavia:

  1. Gunnhild Mother of Kings, wife of Erik Bloodaxe.
  2. Gunnhild Haraldsdottir, sister of Svein Forkbeard, married Pallig, Jarl and Ealdorman in Devon. They both died in the St. Brice's Day massacre in November 1002.
  3. Sigrid the Haughty, who was sometimes referred to as Gunnhild or Gunnhilda.
