Dr. Gunamudian David Boaz, PhD (31 March 1908 - 08 July 1965) was an Indian psychologist. In 1939, he attended St. Catherine's College Oxford as a Theology major. [1] He received his PhD from The University of Oxford in 1943, and graduated from Scott Christian College as Dr. G.D. Boaz, M.A.[2] The department of Psychology was instituted at the University of Madras in 1943. The "Journal of The Madras University" states that Dr. G.D. Boaz joined the department on September 27, 1943 and on October 27, 1943, he became the Senior Lecturer in Psychology. [3] In 1948, a full-fledged Psychology department was organized under the headship of Dr. G.D. Boaz.[4] The department concentrated exclusively on children and their education first. Later on in 1976, the department turned its attention to Criminology, Applied Psychology, Organizational Psychology and Counseling, etc. The G.D. Boaz Hospital in Chennai was established in his memory by his first son, Prabhakaran Boaz.[5]
