I think this image is not Cistus ladanifer. It is - may be - Cistus laurifolius. --Gnomon Kelemen 09:19, August 12, 2005 (UTC)

Is this really an ornamental plant? It is just about the ugliest plant you can find, except the one week during which it flowers a year.--Burgas00 17:12, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

The basic ladanifer is indeed a bit gawky. However, the sulcatus variety (the cistus formerly known as C.palhinhae) is very attractive, compact and quite frost-resistant (here in England anyway) and the appearance of the spectacular flowers (albeit briefly as you say) is the icing on the cake.
