Gummerus Oy is a Finnish media group that was founded in Jyväskylä in 1872 by Kaarle Jaakko Gummerus. In 1985, it moved its headquarters from Jyväskylä to Helsinki. In 2004, it had an annual turnover of EUR 28 million. Annually, it publishes approximately 200 new publications, which are sold in bookstores, department stores and book clubs.
Gummerus Oy consists of three divisions:
- Gummerus Kirjapaino Oy
- Gummerus Kustannus Oy
- Gummerus Kiinteistöt Oy
Although Gummerus Kustannus bought out Ajatus Kustannusosakeyhtiö in May 2001, the company's book division Ajatus Kirjat is an independent entity. Gummerus is also one of the owners of Taskukirja Loisto Oy, a Finnish company that only publishes paperbacks.
