Talk:Gulf Saint Vincent
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why is this article called "Gulf Saint Vincent" and not "Gulf of Saint Vincent"? According to Matthew Flinders it's called the Gulf of Saint Vincent, but more recently it seems to be called Gulf Saint Vincent as well, even on some government websites. Is there any particular reason for this? --ThirdEdition 01:04, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's variably called "Gulf St Vincent", "St Vincent's Gulf" and "Gulf of Saint Vincent". "Gulf of Saint Vincent" is the archaic form, whilst "Gulf Saint Vincent" appears to be the most common. In addition to being labelled as such on maps and by government agencies, Encyclopædia Britannica uses "Gulf Saint Vincent".--cj | talk 07:27, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
