Gulshan Kumar Mehta, popularly known as Gulshan Bawra (madman)[1] is an Indian songwriter, He was born in Sheikhupura. His father had a construction business. During the India-Pakistan partition was caught up in rioting and he witnessed his parents' death. [2] His elder sister at Jaipur, brought him and his elder brother up. He then moved to Delhi where he graduated from the Delhi University. During college, he began to write poetry.
He wanted to make it Indian films but knew nobody in Mumbai (hub of Indian films).He had to do something for a living so he applied for a job with the Railways & was posted in Kota which was then in Madhya Pradesh but when he arrived there, the vacancy was filled. His next call for the post of clerk and the posting was in Mumbai, where he arrived in 1955.
He got a Filmfare award for the lyrics of the song " Yaari hai Imaan mera, yaar meri zindagi" from the movie - Zanjeer.
