Gulkana [gʌlˈkænə] is a census-designated place (CDP) in Valdez-Cordova Census Area, Alaska, U.S. At the 2000 census the population was 88.

Gulkana is located at 62°14′25″N, 145°25′22″W (62.240213, -145.422883)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 36.5 square miles (94.6 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 88 people, 33 households, and 19 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2.4 people per square mile (0.9/km²). There were 43 housing units at an average density of 1.2/sq mi (0.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 26.14% White, 71.59% Native American, and 2.27% from two or more races. 1.14% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 33 households out of which 36.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 27.3% were married couples living together, 30.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.4% were non-families. 27.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.32.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 35.2% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $26,875, and the median income for a family was $27,750. Males had a median income of $60,833 versus $0 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $13,548. There were 35.3% of families and 40.7% of the population living below the poverty line, including 40.0% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.
