Le3 Lf5 8. Pc3 e6 9. Pf3 Le7 10. d5 exd5 11. cxd5 Pb4 12. Pd4 Ld7 13. e6 fxe6 14. dxe6 Lc6 15. Dg4 Lh4+ 16. g3 Lxh1 17. 0-0-0 Df6 18. gxh4 0-0 19. Lg5 Dxf1 20. Txf1 Txf1+ 21. Pd1 Pd3+ 22. Kc2 Pe1+ 23. Kc3 TN. It had been thought White must accept a draw with 23. Kc1 Nd3+ etc. (TK) 23...c5 24. Pf5 Pd5+ 25. Kc4 Lf3 26. Dg3 Pb6+ 27. Kxc5 Tc8+ 28. Kd6 Tc6+ 29. Ke7 Pd5+ 30. Kd8! If 30...Bxd1 31. Bf6 wins. (TK) 30...Lh5 31. Pde3 31. Bh6 does not win in view of this crazy variation by den Broeder: 31...Bg6 32 Qe5 Nf6 33. Nde3 Nd3 34. Ne7+ Kh8 35. Bxg7+ Kxg7 36. N3f5+ Bxf5 37. Nxf5+ Rxf5 38. Qxf5 Nf4 39. Qxf4 Rxe6 and Black can build a fortress. (TK) 31...Txf5 31...Nxe3 32. Ne7+ Kh8 33. Nxc6 Nf5 34. Qa3 winning. (TK) 32. Pxf5 Txe6 33. Pxg7! Kxg7 34. Lh6++ Kxh6 35. Dg5# (1-0)
