KEEP THE SOUNDTRACK WITH THE MAIN ARTICLE
By trying to be "neat" and "sorting" things out, you end up making them more complicated.
The soundtrack definitely should be WITH the main article, not on some other random page.
Jovack 02:49, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Putting the set list on a separate article is consistent with previous Guitar Hero games, and also follows WP's approach to summary style. It made sense to keep the listing on the page as song news came out and there wasn't a full track list, but now with it complete and non-controversial , it's fine to move it. --MASEM 03:03, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
None of us have the game yet. I don't think Target really released the game early. So please, until Sunday, leave the list AS IS until we ALL have the game in our grubby little hands. Seriously this is getting out of hand. Everyone is acting like fucking savages!!!!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gtrmu (talk • contribs) 03:06, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Some Sears stores have begun selling disc-only copies of the game early by mistake. And the soundtrack should stay in the GH3 article, due tot he fact that it only relates to the one specific game rather than the series.BreakerLOLZ 03:24, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- The GH3 songlist article is only for GH3. (There is one that is groups all the lists, but I believe that one should not exist). --MASEM 03:31, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
It may be consistent, but it was stupid to do it then, and it's stupid to do it now. The article is a lot less complicated with everything on one page. People type Guitar Hero 3 to find all the info they want. It is annoying to try and find redirects to other places. Jovack 04:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- As long as the link is there, they can click once more to find the songs. Also, do note that both when GH2 was reviewed for GA, as well as through discussion in part of the Video Games project, it is highly recommended to keep music game soundtracks in separate articles to avoid adding undue weight on the songlist. Mind you, once the game is released, the timeline stuff in the first section needs to be drastically trimmed, but a separate article for songs within the game is the preferred way of doing this. --MASEM 04:15, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
-
- This is understandable for games where the soundtrack is just meant for background ambience, but the soundtrack is the CORE of the game in this case. Guitar Hero 3 is ALL about what songs it has; I would argue this for ALL rhythm games. Adding the full soundtrack seems pointless to the actual game if it is a first person shooter for example, but in this case, the songs deserved to be showcased as the main part of the game, and thus, kept on the main page. Jovack 06:23, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

-
- But by the same argument, this is also the same as a list of levels in the game, which borders on being a game guide. However, very few believe that this is not appropriate material for inclusion in wikipedia. Remember that we're not trying to show any bias here ; it makes sense in the main article to identify some of the songs that Activision has highlighted as being in the game to give a sense of genre, as well as the predominence of master tracks and boss battles and the like, the actual full list of songs (particularly when you get to the bonus tracks) is just a lot of text that is factual information but does not directly support the article. --MASEM 13:22, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

- Personally, when I come to wikipedia to learn about (this) game, I go straight to the songlist. For me, that is all the factual information about the game that I want. Everything about what characters are in the game, what are the venues, etc etc, is all the fluff that I don't want to see, because it has nothing to do with the actual gameplay of the rhythm game. So why don't we have separate articles for: venues, characters, etc. That is what the index at the top of the article is for, to sort the article out so people can quickly and easily find what they want. That is just my opinion, but I believe many people share the same view. 207.210.20.190 14:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

- I agree that the songs are what help to define the game more than characters and venues (which is why these aren't given their own sections, as they have little impact on gameplay and are mostly colorful skins). However, there is a manual of style that we should be following that suggests when pages get long, we use summary style to move mostly-independent sections out from the main article to sub-articles. Of all the elements in the GH page, the songlist is independent. It is still recommended to leave examples of songs that define the game in the main body to help define the scope of music within the game, but every single song is not going to help emphasize that (particularly with some of the bonus/indy tracks).
- Also remember, we are not writing this page for GH fans, we are writing this page for anyone including those that have never played GH, and likely will never play GH, and may know none of the songs on the list, but that they need to learn and understand what it is. A full songlist here is less helpful than describing some example songs that describe the scope of music in the game. Those that want to know the list will still be able to find it, but we have to consider the lowest common denominator when writing WP pages. --MASEM 15:11, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Co-op Career Mode - Encore songs in single player mode?
Does anyone know the situation with Co-op Career Mode Encore songs? Are they initially ONLY available in Co-op Career, and once cleared can they then be played in single player/quick play etc? Could this info be added to the Co-op Career Mode section once confirmed? Wilboss 13:08, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, once you and a partner clear it in co-op career it becomes available in solo mode and practice.Bobert1358 13:36, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Slither by Velvet Revolver
Why is it in the CD soundtrack but not in the game soundtrack? Is this song the guitar battle with Slash? -- FishStik
No, the battle with slash is an original recording by Slash. We're just guessing Slither is going to be DLC.

Could be coming very soon, i just watched a commercial for GH III and saw this http://youtube.com/watch?v=-ILs__bqfOQ (Aaron Esposito 19:18, 31 October 2007 (UTC))
It's false advertising. Slither is in the commercial but not a playable song in the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazydoodle69 (talk • contribs) 15:27, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Bonus tracks
Anyone knows if there will be some kind of reward if beating the bonus tracks?? I mean, in GH II (I have the 360 version) there wasn't any kind of reward for playing the bonus tracks. No money, no characters, no scenarios... It would be a good addition to GH III to give us some kind of 'present' after beating the bonus tracks in each difficulty. Or money, anyways. There isn't nothing in GH II that makes me play the bonus tracks again (although I play them because I like 'em), and this should be the solution.
Take a look at the XBOX360 achievements... there is nothing that hints at anything extra special. Play for your enjoyment.
- Bonus Tracks mean bonus tracks for a reason; no reward. Doshindude 15:00, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- One could argue that the bonus tracks are the reward. Jmoney2008 15:58, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

GH3 Wireless Guitar for 360
As has been mentioned the picture is not correct (assuming most of the Les Pauls are white). Also, you may want to add that according to GameStop the 360 wireless controller IS NOT compatible with the plug and play charger... I would cite this but I cannot access Gamestop from my work machine. Donuthead36 19:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

The Devil Went Down to Georgia/ Lou battle.

I think it is available in quick play, but you have to battle Lou every time. There is no separate note chart for it in single player. Just like the other 2 boss battles. Stxbomber191 21:19, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
It is not available in Quick Play, only in Career (and it's Battle Mode). TwilightWeapon 21:45, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Guitar Hero III Midnight Store Opening Locations
Best Buy is opening a bunch of stores at midnight tonight for the GH3 release. You can see a list at http://www.bestbuy.com/GH3. Not sure if that's something that should be included in the article since on one hand it's a blatant advertisement for Best Buy, but on the other hand I think a lot of people could be interested. I figured if I post it here the editors for this page can decide if it's appropriate. LouPanic 19:11, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

RedOctane screws over Wal-Mart customers
This should be mentioned, as a good number of 360 and PS2 bundles have the wired controllers that were featured in GH2. With the pre-release confusion whether or not 360 was going to ship with a wireless controller or not, many customers assumed that a wireless guitar was not released on the launch date. The walmart package does clearly state that there is a wired controller in the box, however it does not indicate there is a wired option available.
Only people who are absolutely in-the-know will be aware that multiple packaging exists. Very shady.
Note that the wired units are Wal-Mart exclusives and that the wireless are online only (same link). This should be reflected in the article, as I don't think there were any official announcement about wired controllers. Socby19 03:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- I talked to the Assistant Manager at my local EBGames and they said the new guitars are not schedualed to come out until Febuary 28th.--§ Eloc § 03:50, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Ask again because Circuit City and Best Buy have them in-stock in the brick and mortar stores.Note that I listed that Wal-Mart wireless controllers are online only, and wired are "Walmart exclusives" meaning that they are only getting them. Which, in turn, would certainly hurt WM sales. If wireless guitars weren't scheduled to hit shelves until February, Activision would have pushed the date back. The fact that you're in Canada may have something to do with it. Socby19 03:57, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- This is probably notable, but we need more than score hero forums and a digg link to them, and personal experience to be able to include this information. Major Technical Issue with Contacts In Detachable Neck
Why isn't there a mention of this in the article? Across the guitarhero.com, IGN and GameSpot forums, people are widely reporting that the 360 and PS3 wireless Les Paul controller has fret button and tilt sensor issues. Playing with a pick not possible in GH3?
Just an FYI: Players who used a pick (plectrum) for the Harmonix GH line will be eternally frustrated trying to play GH3 due to switch bouncing oversensitivity. Any confirmation/fix from Neversoft/Activision? 68.33.148.172 17:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

- Okay, I see someone removed the Technical Issues section I created (with a citation needed tag) because it was unsourced. Considering that the technical issues are quite real and well-documented across several gaming message boards, I'd like to know how we should approach this. Do we have to wait for a major site to post an article we can cite before we can include this information in the Wiki article? These technical issues are a significant part of the GH3 launch and need to be included somehow. Ideas? KyuzoGator 22:41, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
-
- It's a tricky issue. We are to remain unbiased on WP, and thus some people seeing anything that looks like a POV issue should be removed on sight, but I think what you added was fairly written, with only the lack of a reliable source (boards can't be used unfortunately); the fact you added the cn template at least should have suggested that this was coming.
- We know this needs to be added, but we're tied until we can get the source for it, and (just RSS checking) nothing yet has come through. I would say be persistent and keep looking as once you find the right article, you can add it. This is the same with the Wal-Mart controller issue; all the articles point to scorehero so it's not reliable so we sorta have to wait on that. --MASEM 22:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've looked all over and I can't find a sourceable article yet. I did think what I wrote was NPOV and I've found literally hundreds of complaints so far about the performance of the controller on message boards (which I agree are not valid sources for Wiki). I'll keep at it, I'd like the other people working on this article to try to do the same. KyuzoGator 22:53, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

- I think based on what I've read this morning from RSS feeds that the law of the game article is sufficiently reliable to be used as a reference to describe the problem with the necks, but we should strive for even a better source. Also make sure that you include the fact that "no official word from Activision or RedOctane or Neversoft has been released yet" (or some wording to that extend, implyng that the issue is still open). --MASEM 14:22, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Multiplayer Co-op mode
Methinks it might be worth a mention that the XBox 360 version of the game was updated to include a co-op mode in the standard multiplayer menu on the day of the game's release. Not sure if the PS3 version has the same update. My friend who owns the PS2 version was remarking about the absense of a quick play co-op mode, complaining that you essentially had to use the co-op career mode to play cooperatively. I went home to double check on my 360 version and found there was a co-op option under the multiplayer menu.
Upon watching a GameSpot video review, they mentioned that the feature was added the day of the launch via update (though I don't remember running an update for the game... though it could've been someone else in my house). Just figured I'd see if it was worth a mention in the article somewhere.
EDIT: Found a link about it from the 1Up site: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164008 I'm guessing not a valid referrence per se, but just to clear up what I'm talking about.

Technical Issues
Ok,I get most of the technical issues but can anyone explain this: "Other users have reported that when a real guitar pick is used to hit the strum bar, a double strum is registered." Are people actually using a pick to strum the strum bar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.7.168.44 (talk) 19:58, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Read the discussion "Playing with a pick not possible in GH3?" above. And I hate to bust out the sarcasm, but do you think anyone would notice if no one used a pick? There's no stupid questions, but there's the stupid answer all the same. - Louis 167.1.143.100 20:26, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Excuse me, I guess I was asking is this really a technical issue? The point of the strum bar is to idk, strum it, you really don't need to use a freaking guitar pick to play. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.7.168.44 (talk) 20:31, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- The technical issue is in discussion above, in that it's an issue with the strum detection in the software. It's supposedly a difference in the way the program recognizes the rest point of the strum bar over previous version of GH. There is no verifiable source noted at this point, so if your question had been, "Does this belong in the article," I would've said no. I can't imagine it'll be there for long, honestly. -Louis
EDIT: Lo and behold... someone's removed it :P 167.1.143.100 21:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- To hopefully answer the questions above, there are lots of "pro-level" GH players who use a real pick to do very rapid up/down strums. Players have been doing this since GH1 came out. It's not terribly common, but seems to be a preference for people who play real guitar as well. The new software has a problem facilitating this, from what I understand the strum click and the return to the center position both get registered as strums (hence the "double-strum" phenomenon). I personally don't play with a pick but there are lots of players who do. KyuzoGator 22:56, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
"To hopefully answer the questions above, there are lots of "pro-level" GH players who use a real pick to do very rapid up/down strums." Yeah, right I've never seen someone past medium use a real pick. You have to stop using it to do the harder shit. I think you got your info backwards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.252.251.2 (talk) 18:31, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
I think it should be noted that the Wii guitar controllers have problems too, yesterday mine started the double strum crap, where you strum once and it registers 2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.185.99.145 (talk) 01:11, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Héroes del Silencio downloadable songs
I'm aragonese (spain), just as the spanish famous rock band Héroes del Silencio featured in GH III and, in a interview to the goup due to the ending of their ten-concerts-tour appeared on the Heraldo the Aragón (the newspaper of this spanish state), it's said that the GH III developers are working on more HdS songs that are supposed to be downloadable from the Marketplace soon. Just wanted to say this to you guys. I can't say this is true, but I found it interesting... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.201.66.155 (talk) 18:03, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Classic Controller
The Wii Gibson Les Paul is actually a classic controller on the inside, should this be discussed? (I suppose it's independent research, but it's also a fact that has been confirmed by several people). 98.18.115.241 22:13, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

- I know for a fact it's not the same as a classic controller, I tried using a classic controller for GHIII and it didn't work, also, it's not the same in glovepie. It's a modified classic controller with less buttons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.252.251.2 (talk) 18:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Rock Band under See Also
Rock Band (game) belongs under See Also and this page belongs under See Also for Rock Band. There are numerous sources (I could dig them up if you don't believe me) that relate the two as the music games that will compete for prominence this holiday season. Competitors are often listed under "See Also": Pepsi, See Also Coca-Cola; Dance Dance Revolution, See Also In The Groove; Ventrilo, See Also TeamSpeak; etc. Not to mention the Harmonix connection. Why shouldn't these two link each other? Oren0 05:03, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

It's starting to go over the line into an unsourced mess. Please, clean the section a little. JAF1970 15:43, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Additionally, I saw one statement involving one person's declaration of 'ownage' within the article. I had hoped to edit that out in order to eliminate that pebble of needless braggadocio, but I would like to request that someone with a more able account than mine edit it out. It's kind of a blemish to leave on a protected page. Skye Lazuli 20:37, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Note on example songs in article
I've watched the "representative" list of songs in the article get a bit large as people add their personal favorites (This is always a problem). To that end, I've replaced the list with the songs that were called out by Activision's PR in announcing the game. I've also included Anarachy in the UK because of that being specially remade for GH3. No other songs should be added as to avoid any POV bias on the song list. --MASEM 04:05, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Pop Culture References
I see these in just about every wikipedia article (like useless trivia and so-on), but when I added one to this page, it was removed by another. So is a section for "In game references" suitable? As I've noticed many that are in relation to real bands or songs that aren't in the game. Ynglink 23:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- The reason something like that would be deleted is because it's all personal observations. We don't know the minds of the creators. They might have put something in just because they like it, then someone comes along and says "Hey, that's a reference to (insert band here)!" It's all speculation and doesn't fit on Wikipedia. Will It Blend
In the reception section there is a paragraph about a man blending the controller, saying he did it in response to no Beach Boys songs being on the game. It does not seem like it belongs in the criticism section, as blending objects is what he does, and it seems he would have done it anyway. If anyone can justify it, great, if not I'm deleting it. This article says that GH3 was to be released in Japan, but there's no mention of it in the Wiki article. Did it get canceled or something?

Ummm... Just to point out... The part which states that The Divine Comedy (by Dante Alighieri) is a 'Christian Poem' should be removed. Isn't that comment about the "white boy soundtrack" a little unnecessary, considering (1) the game includes Living Color's "Cult of Personality," (2) the presence of Hendrix on the first Guitar Hero game caused copyright issues, so he's unlikely to be ever used again, and (3)despite his being a very good guitarist, very few Prince hits are guitar-heavy enough to be included in this sort of game. The Wii DLC reference goes to a blog, that links to another blog that eventually links to this Nintencast story. It seems like we would want to link to the source directly, not people repeating what they said. The blog that the article links to makes it sound like "Q1 2008" is much more official than the customer service letter that Nintencast actually quotes.--198.199.191.199 (talk) 22:26, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

In the description of Shanker's Island, it says that the venue is like a real-life version of Alcatraz. It should be switched around; "a fictional version of Alcatraz" or something along those lines.

Wii Technical Issue?
It could potentially be considered a technical issue that the Wii Remote cannot be inserted into the guitar controller without first removing the Wii Remote Jacket which is, after all, now a standard part of the controller, bundled with new controllers and systems, and recommended by Nintendo not to be removed. PC Version download content?
There is no information in the article about download content for the PC - this should definitely be mentioned in the article. When? What? How much? Some guy (talk) 02:23, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- See the above comment from Masem. Wikipedia is not a game guide, and as such we need not tell exactly what appears where. - Download content on the PC is significant enough to mention. I didn't say we needed exact specifics, but it's an extremely important feature of the game and it should at least be mentioned when the PC version will have download content available, as well as other general details. Question
I was reading the discussion on 'Slither by Velvet Revolver' and someone(left unsigned) said that the song would be on an expansion pack for the 360 and PS3. He said that this is confirmed and left it with no proof. Is this true? If it is should it be mentioned and is it coming out for any other systems? Also if you complete co-op career on PS2, can you unlock the rest of the previously unplayable songs? And is there a quick play co-op on PS2? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Neon6419 (talk • contribs) 17:25, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- "Slither" by Velvet Revolver was released in a download pack (simply titled "Velvet Revolver Pack") for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 2007-11-08. It is already listed in the main article (with the line "songs from... Velvet Revolver..." under the "Soundtrack" section) and in the List of songs in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock article (under the "Downloadable tracks" section) with references, which are found at:
- http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/11/08/in-game-content-Guitar-Hero-III.aspx
- As for the rest of your question regarding Co-Op Career on the PlayStation 2... Wikipedia is not a forum for general discussion. Might I suggest either the Official GuitarHero.com forums or the ScoreHero.com forums to ask this question. Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 21:40, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm just asking if there is a co-op quickplay after you beat the co-op career mode, and which systems does this apply to. Or if all the unplayable songs become playable on co-op. I would like everyone to know because on the song list article, it states on co-op career songs 'Once Co-op Career is complete, then all songs in the main setlist (except "Paint It Black" – "The Rolling Stones") will be unlocked for Co-op play'. The article does not verify if this applies only on PS3 & 360(seeing how some features are not applied on PS2,Wii,& Com. Such as load screens, charaters, etc). I'm not asking for my own benefits, but others would like to know such things like this. This should be mentioned. I understand this is not a forum disussion page, but I would like for certain things to be mentioned and any questions answered so we can make this and other articles better. I know Wikipedia is not for personal benefits or forum discussions, but I think some things need to be mentioned, and I will ask those questions so I know if the subject will need to be put in the article or not. I am not trying to start a general discussion based on opinions or thoughts of the article, but for suggestions and ideas based on what information should be put in the article. Neon6419 (talk) 01:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a collection of indiscriminate info, more specificially Wikipedia is not a game guide. We can give a wide overview of the game that addresses most of the major features of the game, but to get into much of the nitty-gritty details that you are asking about is not appropriate for WP (but can be found in other sources like GameFAQs or similar places). --MASEM 01:51, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
It would be nice if people could just answer the question, since it would take less time then giving all that stupid info on how you can't answer the question. I'm pretty sure there isn't a co-op quickplay on the Wii, but you do unlock the rest of the songs after you beat the 6th set. Bluemilkman (talk) 00:55, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
