Misleading
The article is misleading - she has not said anything about GW2 being anounced. Gaile Gray has stated that "some of what you've read is right, some of it is wrong, and quite a bit of it is misleading" and that "The good news is that the top game publications in Europe and the U.S. are preparing feature articles with major Guild Wars news ... In the U.S., PC Gamer will begin delivery of the May issue to subscribers on March 15, and it will be on newsstands on April 3". Interpretting this to mean something specifically about a presumed GW2 is speculative at best. --67.168.14.198 04:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD does not apply
The old AfD was cloed because there was no information on this game. This information has now been released. The relevant text must now be moved here from Guild Wars. Please do not reverse this without discussion. Eric Sandholm 15:29, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Have you read this article where these new purported details were announced? If so, please cite your sources. Incidentally, I would claim that an article on a game to barely enter beta in 2008 doesn't meet WP:N by a long shot, but the AfD renom can wait a few weeks. — Kaustuv Chaudhuri 15:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

- No, the PC Gamer magazine for May is out for subscribers only at the moment. Some fans have received it and written up articles on some fansites. This is one, for example. I will add the sources as soon as I have the May issue in my hands, if they aren't added sooner. About WP:N, surely a highly anticipate sequel to a top-shelf game meets whatever notability criteria Wikipedia uses! The Burning Crusade was created months and months before its release, for example. Concept Art Copyright?
We could always wait and get the art from the offical GW Wiki since apparently there is concept art of the charr and so on. --198.254.16.201 18:26, 21 March 2007 (UTC) http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Image:CharrConceptArt.jpg
- Before copying anything from the official wiki, be sure to double check their copyright license. I need to double check, but I believe that it explicitly states that certain content is not released under GFDL - among which were in-game images and game renders - I can't recall if concept art was included in that. The website guildwars.com does have a gallery section which they've permitted fansites to use images from in the past to use in documentation. Any concept art used should likely come from that source to ensure no copyvio issues. --161.88.255.139 23:15, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Plus that is concept art from GW1, after all the Charr were first shown in the orginal game. That art has long since bee made public and does not pertain to GW2.--68.192.188.142 01:26, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
http://gw.gamewikis.org/, often known as "GuildWiki", is not an official wiki. Its content is also licensed for non-commercial use only, under Creative Commons license. So its contributed material is incompatible with Wikipedia's GFDL license. The official Guild Wars wiki can be found here: http://wiki.guildwars.com/. All the content on the offical wiki is licensed under the same license as Wikipedia -- the GFDL. So these should maintain perfect "compatibility". So I recommend the new official wiki if you're intending to re-use content here. -- Northgrove 11:22, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- No, we can't use the majority of art from either source. Look at their copyright articles. GuildWiki is under a license that's not compatible with Wikipedia. On the other hand, the official Guild Wars wiki releases all user content under GFDL, but explicitly states that most images remain copyright ArenaNet/NCsoft, and are NOT GFDL. It appears that ArenaNet has a fansite kit section where they make images available for documentation purposes, but most of those are logos and icons. Most other images found on-line are in-game images used under fair use for purposes of illustrating, reviewing, or documenting the game - none of which will be possible for GW2 for quite some time. --161.88.255.139 17:36, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- You're correct; some of their art (especially renders) can't be re-used. I missed that part. However, they'll in these cases explicitly be marked as such to avoid confusion, and text material should be reusable. As for GuildWiki, I already said above that their license is incompatible. -- Northgrove 23:45, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

- Now I'm confused. Following the links, I found this page, which states: "Content obtained from Guild Wars, its web sites, manuals and guides, concept art and renderings, press and fansite kits, and other such copyrighted material, may also be available from this site. All rights, title and interest in and to such content remains with ArenaNet or NCsoft, as applicable, and such content is not licensed pursuant to the GFDL." - To me, that statement says that pretty much all game images, regardless of the source, are not GFDL. It doesn't appear to matter if they add a special tag on the image itself. --76.22.17.84 14:59, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

- You are correct. Adding things from in game to the official wiki does not change the copyright of the image, which remains with ArenaNet/NCSoft. As an official wiki with arenanet employees posting it was necessary to make that clear that their posting to the site didn't make the content GFDL. It does not need to be labelled as the license text is the final word on the copyright of the image.
- wrt image use, Wikipedia can include screen shots and possible readily available concept arts by claiming fair use and applying the appropriate disclaimers on the posted image. You can see what has been done with description and licensing with Image:Guild_Wars_character_selection_(screenshot).jpg. The CVG project as information and a bunch of tags to use on the page described here.
- Don't copy heaps & heaps of stuff, don't copy from magazines (because in that case you're probably violating their copyright by significantly reducing the value of their article), follow the guidelines on the CVG page and I'm sure it'll be fine. ;) --Aspectacle 22:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

What does this mean?
"characters will use whatever skills they currently have to aid them." Does this mean the 8 skill limit will be abandoned? This should be clarified in the main page —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Natrilix (talk • contribs) 05:45, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
System specs
Has ArenaNet officially announced the system requirements for GW2? I hadn't seen them yet; but then real world issues have kept me from following updates as closely as I would like.
However, the listed specs do look suspicious; I'm not sure if the game is even in alpha testing yet (GW:EN is supposedly in alpha now, but seems too early for GW2), also the specs shown here are identical to the specs shown for GW:Nightfall - given the changes that they've announced wanting to implement in the game world, I would find it hard to believe that it could still run on a system at those same specs.
But, if ArenaNet has released this info, can someone post a link? --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 15:48, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:GW2 logo.jpg
Image:GW2 logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
