Originally constructed as Mary Jane Shannon Junior Secondary in 1971, the school was renamed Guildford Park Secondary in 1977 due to clerical mixups with Mary Jane Shannon Elementary, which was next door. Guildford Park Secondary was rebuilt as a 8-12 school in 1984

Guildford Park offers academic courses as part of the Advanced Placement (AP) program. It was ranked 135th in the Fraser Institute annual ranking of schools in 2004/05[1].

Guildford park has many sports. Including: Soccer, Wrestling, Volleyball, Rugby, Basketball, Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee, and most recently hockey. The Guildford Park wrestling team won provincials in 2007 hosted in the Guildford Rec Center.
