Guilden Sutton is a civil parish and village in Chester, England. It is home to 1525 residents[1] two churches, a primary school, one pub, a Post Office and a village hall as well as several local business.

The village, as well as having Parish Councillors, is part of the Christleton ward in Chester City Council elections. The ward of Christleton has always been in Conservative control. Brian Bailey is the second longest serving Councillor on Chester City Council, and the current Lord Mayor of Chester. He is also the longest serving local government representative for Guilden Sutton as of September 2007. The current City Councillors will serve until 2009 when the council will be disbanded.

For County Council elections, Guilden Sutton is part of the Gowy ward. The single councillor is Eleanor Johnson, who became Gowy's first ever female councillor in 2007. She will serve until the authority is disbanded in 2009.

As of May 2009, Chester City Council and Cheshire County Council will be dissolved. There will then be only two levels of local government for Guilden Sutton, the Parish Council and West Cheshire Unitary Council. Guilden Sutton will be part of the Gowy Ward (based on the old Cheshire County Council division of the same name), and will elect three unitary councillors by the block vote method. Shadow elections to the authority will take place on 1st May, 2008, and terms will expire on the first Thursday of May 2011.

A by-election was held for the Parish Council in 2007, following the retirement of long-serving councillor Bob Armitage. Michelle Kerfoot was co-opted to the council, as no election was called.

A by-election will be held in 2007, following the death of Conservative incumbent, John Burke. This by-election will decide the control of Cheshire County Council.

The parish elections in Guilden Sutton on 3rd May, 2007, when terms for the whole Parish Council expired were not contested as Cllr. Catherine Carter stepped down and Mike Roberts was elected in her place.

Prior to this election, the seat had been vacant for just over four months, as the Conservative incumbent John Boughton had died, and no by-election was called as the term expired in fewer than six months from any possible by-election date.
