[edit] USC Talamban pic

Hi! Can I use your University of San Carlos Talamban picture in the University of San Carlos article? How to use it since it is in Netherlands version. Please help. What other pictures do you have of Cebu and Bohol?--Guest818 04:18, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I have uploaded the picture to commons, using the same name. This means you can just include it in the article by using [[Image:University of San Carlos Talamban.jpg]]. I have many photos available of Cebu and Bohol. A couple of them are already uploaded to either the Netherlands version or commons. You can find them on this page. When the picture is on the Dutch wikipedia, you just have to upload it to commons. All of them are Public Domain, as far as I remember. Magalhães 15:36, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you...I did try to do that, but it did not seem to work. Thanks for all the pictures.--Guest818 17:02, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] do I know you?

I hope you don't mind me asking, but you do not happen to live (or used to live) in San Francisco and are about 42 years old? I did meet somebody from Philippine origin living there about three years ago, when I was on holiday in the Philippines in 2003 and I see that you live in California... Anyway, the changes are enormously small ofcourse... Magalhães 20:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

No, that wouldn't be me. Filipinos are all over the place, though. --Guest818 23:22, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for the barnstar

Wow, thank you. I'm glad to have been able to provide what little assistance I have, and of course I'll be happy to help any time. Thank you for your recognition. It is much appreciated. SWAdair 00:56, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi again! I was fixing my userbox today, and only noticed your fixing it. Thank you! Indeed, the barnstar is well-deserved by you, with all the extra attention on my "neopedia" activities, including the nitty gritty! I've been getting side-tracked with little articles/ stubs, I haven't done really much with the early ones I was working on, like HNU and the other SVD Schools. But it will be good to get your expert and honest opinion on the ones I've worked on or contributed, especially the: Philippine Tarsier Foundation, Philippine Tarsier, Chocolate Hills. Best regards! --Guest818 10:31, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
You humble me. You have done a truly amazing amount of work creating and fleshing out these articles. All I do is come along and do some MOS tweaking, things that you are rapidly learning on your own. You are the one who deserves the Philippine Barnstar, not I. I have to go offline for the day, but I wanted to let you know I just finished going over Philippine Tarsier Foundation. What wonderful creatures, and what a great article. I look forward to having the time to peruse the other articles you've been working on. Happy editing! SWAdair 11:42, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Hello! Thanks for your edits on the Philippine Tarsier Foundation. I am not too keen on the "standards" yet. It's good to have somebody double check. Unlike the other articles, there are only few editors on this article. If there are still other things you think I can improve, especially on the content, that will be good too. Best regards.--Guest818 05:06, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Paraphrasing

You said "If there are still other things you think I can improve, especially on the content, that will be good too." Hmm... there is one area that I see could use a bit of work -- paraphrasing. Although you aren't lifting large sections of text from other websites I noticed that almost every time you add a reference, you copy verbatim a small section of text from that reference. That is cutting it very close to the legal line on copyright and fair use issues. It might be a good idea to reword things so that you paraphrase the reference rather than quoting it. Wikipedia:Copyright#Using_copyrighted_work_from_others and Wikipedia:Fair use#Text explain the extreme limits of what is allowed, but it would be best to stand far back from the extreme limit. For example, in Chocolate Hills where it says "The world-renowned cone-shaped Chocolate Hills is Nature's expression of beauty, mystery and romance. Unique in the world, the Chocolate Hills is the province's signature attraction" you might instead write "The beautiful, romantic Chocolate Hills are the province's main attraction. There is no natural formation like them in the world." Not as flowery, but at least it contains the same information but in different (i.e. legally safe) words. In fact, the fewer superlatives, the better for an encyclopedia article. It might be best to call them either beautiful or romantic, but not both together -- at least for the article. Other than paraphrasing, I think you're doing a fantastic job. From the amount of time and effort you are putting into these articles it is clear that you enjoy improving them. Your enthusiasm shows in your work. SWAdair 07:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

Just checking on how the upload of other pictures of Philippines and Bohol is coming along? Please don't forget to update me. Thanks. Best regards. --Guest818|talk 05:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I have a lot of photo's but do not know whether they are really interesting enough to upload. Also, I do not know the name of some of the buildings that are on the pictures. I will try to do a couple this weekend. I am extremely busy, because I am changing job and buying and selling a house. Magalhães 21:16, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
They might be needed in any of the articles in List of Bohol-related topics. --Guest818|talk 19:32, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Philippine Tarsier

Message for UtherSRG (talk): Hi! Just checking with you on how the Philippine Tarsier peer review is coming along? What needs to be done now? Please enlighten me. Thanks. Best regards. --Guest818|talk 05:50, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Noted. Will spare it sometime soon. --Guest818|talk 19:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gallery

Message for UtherSRG (talk): Hello! I now have several free images on the Philippine Tarsier in Commons. Are you open to putting a Gallery section the article? Pls respond in my talk page. Thanks .--Guest818|talk 19:54, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 10 more pictures taken on Bohol

I have uploaded 10 more pictures taken on Bohol. I hope you can use some of them. You can find them in Category:Bohol on commons. Magalhães 10:10, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

A very interesting link for finding more pictures about Bohol (or other places in the Philippines or elseweher) is this link. Please be aware that not all pictures can be uploaded to Wikipedia. You will have to check the rights, whether they are Public or Creative Commons (e.g. CC-BY-SA or some other forms allowed). Magalhães 11:04, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Infobox Philippine High Schools

Not necessary for stubs unless more information can be added to the infobox. The previous infobox used only included the location of the school which could be easily found on the lead sentence of the article. But if detailed information (eg. complete the fields of the infobox) can be added, then an infobox is more than welcome to be placed on the article. Merry Christmas. ^_^ --Mithril Cloud 05:43, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Good to give stubs a head start though. This means that it would be good to include an infobox even if it's still under dev't. That way, people will see that it needs more collaborative effort for it to grow. { PMGOMEZ } 17:48, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] your edits in changing Filipino people to Philippines

You seem to have changed all articles involving Filipino people to Philippines. Please explain your rationale why, or fill out edit summary as best as you can. IMHO, the edit is not minor. Also, the correct wiki link is Filipino people, not Philippines. Unless you can give a valid rationale for your edit, please revert all your previous edits or they will be reverted for you. --Guest818(talk) 07:29, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Distinction between the people of the State and ethnic Filipinos all over the world

I admit I ought to have filled out the summary fields to give my reason for the changes. I hoped, particularly in the case of politicians, to make it clear that these people were answerable to the Republic of the Philippines, whose people voted them into power. These public officials are necessarily tied to the State (the same goes for government technocrats), and thus I found it logical that “Filipino” in those instances would link to Philippines. The articles about Kim Jong-il, Junichiro Koizumi, etc. do the same. The changes I made were not arbitrary. I hope you understand. —Lagalag 10:52, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Haller

Thanks for the compliments. I'd like to return it by saying your contributions on Philippine-related articles are appreciated and commended.

Gamay ra ang akong kibaw-an sa pagsulti sa Bisaya. o.O Haha my mother helped me with that one. I was going to say gagmay lang kasabot ko sa Bisaya. Berserkerz Crit 17:50, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Age category

Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:

  • Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
  • Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.

If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:35, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Logosvd2.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logosvd2.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. PxMa 23:46, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Chatto.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Chatto.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:49, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
