Guessology - Facetious term for scientific method whereby one comes up with a guess as to what has happened or what will happen. The guess is then followed by experiments and data is analyzed. The data analysis offers three outputs. Confirmation (you were right), Partially right (you revise your theory) or Wrong (your theory is rejected).
This term may be applied pejoratively to the practice of researchers of average competence in their field of study. The implication is that a guess is stated as a postulation of what they believe to be true without a fundamental scientific approach or basis to the problem or theory.
