Guerilla Opera

[edit] Mission:

To revitalize opera by commissioning and performing newly composed chamber operas which required the highest level virtuosity and musicianship equally from vocalists and instrumentalists, while simultaneously creating and championing an accessible and artistically progressive repertoire. All of this is accomplished without the use of a conductor, in the true style of chamber music.

While other chamber opera companies exist, the unique goal of Guerilla Opera is to promote the work of living composers. Each work is commissioned for the specific performing forces Guerilla Opera commands. A premium has been places on intimate, dramatic experiences exploring socially relevant subject matter. Two important components to achieving this goal are performing in small black box style theatres with limited sets and lights and by maintaining a maximum duration of one hour per work.
