Gudusia chapra is a shad of the Clupeidae family,[1][2] available in rivers of India and Bangladesh, chiefly the Ganges and Brahmaputra systems affluent to the Bay of Bengal. It is also found in Nepal,[3] Pakistan[4] and the Mahanadi River of Orissa, India. Outside the rivers it also occurs in ponds, beels, ditches and inundated fields.[2]
