How about some info on the Guangxi Clique?

[edit] Names

The first paragraph is a mess to read with all of the names info. Anyone averse to a separate names section to follow the intro paragraph? - AjaxSmack 03:14, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I find the Cantonese dialect web page embarassing. While Cantonese is OK as a dialect, it is not meant to be a literary language - a scholarly article written in Cantonese is a contradiction in terms.

While I do not propose to go back to writing in Classical Chinese, writing the Chinese language in the vernacular was only popularized after the fall of the Qing dynasty - less than 100 years ago. Some of the promoters of this vernacular were writers from Shanghai. Instead of promoting the writing of a vernacular based on the Shanghai dialect, they promoted the writing of a vernacular based on the Beijing dialect. If a native Alemmani speaker can write in Standard German - I am sure that a Cantonese speaker can write in Standard Chinese.

  • Finally changed the intro with the name stuff. Kept the information on the name but split it between the intro and culture.Mike (talk) 01:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cannibalism

What about references to the 1000 people who were cannibalized in Guangxi? Tim Long 05:49, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
