Guaratuba is a city in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Founded on 1765, it is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches of Paraná.[1]

The King of Portugal, Dom Jose I, worried about the possible invasions of the Brazilian coast,commanded that they established villages and towns in more convenient points to the projecting or dispersed small farms to live in civil populations, where the conditions allowed it. It found to be of great convenience the creation of a population between the villages of Paranaguá and of the River San Francisco if the conditions allowed it. In 5 of December of 1765, Dom Luis sent a Flock for the formation of the new population. This Flock was formed for 200 couples that would cultivate discovered lands. It started to appear Guaratuba. In July of 1766, the Conde de Oeiras directed to Dom Luis praising, on behalf of the King, the projects to establish the population in the cove of Guaratuba and being communicated that the King would like that the new Village had his name, S. Luis.In 13 of May of 1768, Dom Luis granted the favors asked for the founder of the new population which consisted in the creation and maintenance of a church. Dom Luis, in 23 of January of 1770, commanded his assistant lieutenant-colonel Alfonso Botelho de Sampaio e Sousa, who erected in village the small farm called Guaratuba, where already had houses etc.After some expeditions, in 27 April of 1771, Dom Luis returned to Guaratuba. In day 28, the Church was blessed and in day 29 was established the village of São Luís de Guaratuba. Day 30 of April of 1771 the first City council with approval of the founder of the village and the listener-generality was elect.The councilmen had directed the destinations of the guaratubano people, attended for the president of the province (up to 1854 Paraná belonged the São Paulo), until on account of the Announcement of the Republic, another regimen politician started to invigorate. Its first chosed mayor who assumed the position in 1792, thus continuing up to 20 of October of 1838, when for force of state law no 7572, was extinct the city, starting to constitute a municipal district of Paranaguá. Only in day 10 of October of 1847, for Law no 02, is that the autonomy was restored municipal, being reinstalled in day 25 of October of the same year.On this new phase, the first mayor was Mr. Berilo da Cunha Padilha. In the year of 1954 the city of Guaratuba starts to be part of the Judiciary district of Sao Jose dos Pinhais. Finally in July of 1986 Guaratuba obtained municipal emancipation.

The Guaratuba name means "many guarás". This name was conceived by the natives who at the time inhabited this region when the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese people. Guará is the name of a bird of red plumage that existed in abundance in this area and that even protected for the authorities, they had been extincted. Tuba means extreme amount in the aboriginal language.

The geographic position of Guaratuba is the following one: Altitude - 6 meters · Latitude - 25° 52' · Longitude - 48° 34' The city is situated in a peninsular, arenaceous plain,facing the bay at the Northwest, and another front in the Atlantic Ocean at the Southeast.

the climate of Guaratuba is tropical superhumid, without definite dry station and exempt of frosts. The average of temperature of the hottestes months is superior 30°C, and in the most cold months over 15°C.

Agriculture, fishing, and the tourism constitutes the basic economic activities of the city. Guaratuba has fertile lands where maize, sugar cane, rice, orange, ginger and banana, and many other products of great economic importance. The cattle is distinguished with a considerable flock of buffalos.Fishing also has great prominence in the economy of City, being one of its main sources of wealth, being made in artisan way.Even with its fishing being done in artisan way, the technology already is present in 80% of this activity operating with a fishing industry. It still exists in Guaratuba two industries of palmito that are marks in Brazil and the exterior. The tourism also constitutes excellent source of profit for the City. Tourists of all Brazil and the world visit annually its 22km of beaches.

[edit] Caieiras Beach
It is between the tip of the Johnnser and the rocks of the Caieiras, it has an extension of 1 km, and is used for a community of fishermen. A curiosity on this beach is a Paraguayan vapor that sinked when it ran away from the Brazil-Paraguay war.
[edit] Hotel Beach
It is initiated in the rocks of the Caieiras until the Hotel, its extension is in format of a half moon and follows to the Mount of the Christ.

It starts in the Beach of the Hotel and goes until the Mount of the Christ, forming the Turkish Beach, the fishermen beach and the Beach of the Christ.
[edit] Brejatuba Beach
It is to the south of the Mount of the Christ, in its extension receives many names. It is good for bath, surf and fishing.

It is located in the tip of Caiobá, before the passage of the bay.
[edit] Bay of Guaratuba
Second greater of the state, with an exuberant beauty with beautiful islands and rivers. Rich in fauna and flora and its area is under protection.
