Prior to 1960 and the advent of the Castro regime, all streets and buildings were well maintained as Guanabacoa was a prosperous and bustling community. The extent of decay and disrepair depicted in the pictures have come about as a result of the poverty and apathy brought on by the repressive Castro regime. To prove the point, once the link is accessed one can scan the cursor over the pictures and note that they were taken in 2003.
