Guðrún Kristín Magnúsdóttir

Guðrún Kristín Magnúsdóttir a.k.a. "Göia" (born 27 September 1939, Reykjavík, Iceland)[1] is a goði (priestess) of the Íslenska Ásatrúarfélagið in the district "Undir fjöllum". She has published several of her own books through her non-profit enterprise, Freyjukettir, including the profound "Óðsmál: mankind's favorite topic fascinating being in an earnest discussion between Óður, the Norse god, and Freyja's beloved husband nowhere to be found and the little Völva, a human being, a wise, veracious, old, Icelandic woman."[2] In 1997, Göia was Iceland's representative to Copenhagen, Denmark.[3]

Guðrún has been a heathen as long as she could remember "Heathenry is so natural to us that we do not know why we become heathens, we probably have been so all the time, and everyone is born heathen!" She has studied the Eddas and has come to the realisation that the myths are analogies and have many similarities to the Vedas, for example "Ginnungagap is Brahman of the Vedas, the Unified Field in science; it is the Great Void that is all intelligence and pure knowledge!"[4]

Guðrún practices Transcendental Meditation (TM) and Yogic flying to further her evolution. Transcendental Meditation, she beliefs, should be practiced by anyone who wants to further themselves and gain the power of nine good galdrar (charms).[5]

Guðrún is a part time actress and has acted in numerous Icelandic television shows, plays, and films. Films she has appeared in are Hrafninn flýgur (When the Raven Flies), and Myrkrahöfðinginn (Witchcraft).[6] She was granted first prize for the full length play, “Ég er hættur! Farinn! Ég er ekki með í svona asnalegu leikriti!" ("I quit! I am leaving! I am not taking part in such a silly play any more!").[7]

In her earlier years, Guðrún, attended art school for four years and graduated with a diploma in ceramics.[8] Becoming proficient, she then taught ceramics in preliminary schools and an art school. Meanwhile, she took part in several art exhibitions and performances.[9]

At the University of Iceland, Göia, studied Philosophy and Pedagogy.[10]After attending commercial school, she spent several years in ballet and music schools. At one time Göia was a photo model, i.e. mannequin.[11]
