gToons
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
gToons was an online collectible card game available at Cartoon Orbit, Cartoon Network's web network. The game was launched in October 14, 2002. Cartoon Network had over 250,000 gToons users after the first month. There were five separate expansion packs, each with different gToons contained in them, released between 2003 and 2006. gToons closed along with Cartoon Orbit on October 16, 2006, although it has been stated that it might return "as a stand-alone game sometime in the future with new sets of game pieces to collect".[1]
Players assembled 12-card decks to compete with, and games lasted only a few minutes. Cards represented characters, places, and things from Cartoon Network shows like Ed, Edd, and Eddy and The Powerpuff Girls. Each card had a color and a value, and may also have a special effect that modifies the values of other cards. Two colors (determined by the "bottom" card of each player's deck) are goal colors: if the two colors are both "neutral" colors (black or silver), the higher total point value wins. If exactly one color is neutral and the other is non-neutral (blue, red, yellow, green, purple, etc.), a player with more cards of the non-neutral color receives a 15 point bonus to their total before determining victory. If neither color is neutral, a player can win by having more of each color in play than his or her opponent; otherwise, the higher total value wins.
gToons resurfaced as "Action Packs" for the shows Ben 10: Alien Force and Transformers: Animated, with cards themed after the characters from each show and decks to play with. The rules remain the same.
