Do I spy another Bloordale resident? :) Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 16:27, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! And it's Parkdale, actually... but I get around. GTD Aquitaine (talk) 16:50, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah, Parkdale - where there's slightly fewer junkies and slightly more prostitutes. Isn't Toronto lovely? ;) Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 17:17, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] TTC Stations

You have recently added pictures to some TTC stations, but the location of many of them within the article squeeze the text against the infobox. The Wikipedia:Manual of Style recommends that right-alignment is preferred to left- or center-alignment for the lead image and that you should avoid sandwiching text between two images facing each other (or in this case the infobox). I have moved a few of these images to below the leading text which allows for a larger clearer display of 320px. Too bad about the weather that day, but still good additions. Thanks. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:22, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi - thanks for the information. Sad to say I wasn't aware of that particular component of the Manual of Style before now. I'll be more careful in the future; I would've been putting these pictures directly in the infoboxes, but they're already occupied and I didn't want to stash them all the way at the bottom. [edit] Roncesvalles Village

Hi, I undid your inclusion of the photo for Ronces Village. The one of the intersection. Not to be too critical, but maybe you could take one of the streetcar barn, or of some subject in the area? It was just a photo of an intersection. I don't want to curb your enthusiasm for adding photos, please keep it up! Alaney2k (talk) 23:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I should add, that you should upload these PD images to Wikipedia Commons, no? Alaney2k (talk) 23:27, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Is there any particular reason why? The article section I placed it in explicitly refers to the intersection. Could you provide me a valid reason why you think it was worth removing, considering the picture was taken and placed to improve the topic of discussion it was placed with? I would have added the picture in the Roncesvalles Avenue article, except there isn't one - all of them redirect to Roncesvalles Village. GTD Aquitaine (talk) 01:34, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure. You use a picture to illustrate something. In this case, let's think about illustrating the intersection. I know, as I live nearby, that the picture only shows a fraction of the intersection. Secondly, what is noteworthy about the intersection? I would argue that it is the tremendous number of streetcar tracks, or the view looking towards the lake, or the size of the intersection. There are huge billboards nearby. The old hotel on the south-east corner dates back to 1850. Look how it has changed. The McDonald's used to be a bus station. The convenience store used to be a bank. There is a lot of history to that intersection. Those aspects are not covered or covered well in that photo. I don't know of a public-domain photo to show the intersection in the past to contrast, but the intersection could use a good photo. Thirdly, when you compose a picture, you have a subject in the picture. What is the subject of your image? Is it the traffic? Try a more interesting angle to capture more of the intersection, or more of what is notable about it. Really, I just want to encourage you to take a better picture, as there are photos in the article. Alaney2k (talk) 14:30, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! That's a lot better than seeming like it was removed, well, just because. I've heard a lot about things like that tending to happen. GTD Aquitaine (talk) 14:36, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Why are you not uploading to Wikimedia Commons [1]? I think that that is what is encouraged for PD images. The images link to articles on English Wikipedia just as easily, and, I think, are more easily accessible for other language Wikipedias. Alaney2k (talk) 14:39, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Mostly because from my look at the Commons guidelines, it seems as if most of my photos wouldn't be permitted due to their subject matter - art, statues, edifices, et cetera that I don't completely own the rights to myself. GTD Aquitaine (talk) 14:47, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Henry Farm

Where the heck is Dudley Street? The only entrance to HF from Sheppard Ave. is Shaughnessy Blvd. Have you confused this with another street or picture or neighbourhood? Regards, Ground Zero | t 06:25, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Whoops - that was a mistake, I misread the geographical boundaries of the neighborhood. It's a bit too far west, it's actually Willowdale. Thanks for the notification. GTD Aquitaine (talk) 06:33, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. Keep up the good work. Ground Zero | t 06:39, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Toronto

You've done great work - I was tempted to do the TTC station-entrances when I moved here last year, but wasn't able to figure out how to add them to the infobox, so abandoned the idea. (Luckily I've learned a lot since then ;) ) - if you're ever looking for company shooting photos around the city expressly for Wiki, feel free to ask. I do it myself, and like most activities it can be more interesting with someone else present also interested in photography. (User:Sherurcij/portfolio for a few). Anyways, great work thusfar! Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 20:39, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the confidence! I'm on a pretty horrid work schedule right now, and going around taking photos for Wiki really helps me in that it gives me time out in the daytime and the opportunity to synthesize Vitamin D. Though I think my camera isn't nearly as good as yours. I'll be done the subways soon enough - I plan to tie up Lawrence to Finch on my next run - and then it's just filling in the B-D gaps and the remaining downtown stations. As for company... perhaps so, sometime! GTD Aquitaine (talk) 13:43, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
