Hi, I'm GTBacchus (talkcontribsblocksprotectsdeletionsmoves), a Wikipedia editor and administrator. Offline, I'm G. Tony Jacobs, a teacher and amateur mathematician living in Seattle, Washington, USA. This page was last updated on January 12, 2008 (Seattle time).

For the last few months, most of my activity here has related to Wikipedia:Requested moves. I think I've completed over 1000 moves, and closed a few hundred discussions besides. I've been learning all about the Wikipedia:Naming conventions, which is fun, and I get to look at a great variety of cool articles. They all end up on my watchlist, the size of which has now exceeded 5,000 pages. If you need assistance relating to an article renaming, or a history merge, I can probably help you.

If you disagree with my closure of a move request, you are welcome to leave me a message, and I'll very likely get back to you within 24 hours, if not much sooner.

I've spent a fair amount of time working with stub sorting and articles for deletion. I've had some success in mediating and dispute resolution - nothing formal, just helping people talk with each other. I'm quite a good copyeditor, too. I'm happy to assist in any of these areas, or in just about any adminly function - if I don't know it, I at least know how to find out.

That said, some things that I'm not so good at include the intricacies of copyrights and licensing, the various auto-blocks and triplines and check-boxes that accompany blocking and unblocking, and anything about image file formats and sizes. I keep learning more Wiki-markup and HTML, but I didn't design this user page, and I haven't yet figured out how it works.

I haven't done a whole lot of writing here, and I frequently wish that I were more motivated in that direction, but I seem to like helping out with admin tasks much more, so I just consider myself to be in service of the writers, helping the wheels to turn reasonably smoothly

Happy editing!

[edit] Selected articles that GTBacchus has worked on

(or sometimes looks after)

  • Abortion - More dispute resolution than writing here.
  • Blondie (comic strip) - I began this article, and it has done pretty well since then.
  • Charles Chilton Moore - This one was fun to research.
  • Cocaine - the most vandalized article on my watchlist.
  • Damiana - My first taxobox, I believe.
  • Discordianism - An important article to me, I've done various kinds of work on it.
  • Doll - Started this one, would like to groom it to an FA one day.
  • Edwyn Collins - Wrote the stub.
  • Exploitation film - Another one I began, and should soon revisit with an eye to citations.
  • Graffiti - I did a lot of structural work on this a long time ago, and it became an FA, but then fell.
  • Hipster - I did a lot of writing early on; this article needs constant attention to keep it from eroding. Sort of a problem child.
  • Jimmy Castor - Wrote the stub.
  • Los Cerrillos, New Mexico - Made contributions that I really need to source, now that I've learned about WP:NOR.
  • Louis F. Budenz - Discovered while stub sorting and fleshed out .
  • Mason-Dixon line - I helped shape the opening paragraph, and learned a thing or two about content disputes here.
  • Ralph Abraham - Wrote the stub.
  • Robin Askwith - Wrote the stub.
  • Santa Fe, New Mexico - used to live there, helped flesh out the history section.
  • Squonk - my first Wikipedia article, based on research I'd done for h2g2.
  • Towel - I started this, and have continued to look after it. h2g2 is again to thank.
  • Triangle and Robert - Wrote most of this, almost lost it on AfD, but it was determined to be an historically notable webcomic.
  • Turneraceae - Written along with Damiana, being the containing family.
  • War on Christmas - Since renamed. I participated in the fray around Christmas 2005. What a mess that was.
  • Xavier Roberts - Wrote the stub.
