[edit] Hello from another wine lover
And programmer, for that matter. I see you've been making a number of excellent edits on the wine pages. They are quite appreciated. Sometimes it seems that there are ten editors interested in video games for every one of us wine geeks. Anyway, see you around, and don't forget to cite your sources at the bottom of the page. [edit] Thanks from another programmer
Funnily enough I happen to be a programmer too, but anyway I just want to say thanks for reverting the spam/vandalism that was placed by 203.127.203.17 on the Xanadu House article (that I wrote most of), I didn't really ever expect to see someone place spam on that article. — Wackymacs 13:27, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hiroshima / Nagasaki
Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia.
May I ask why you removed the anon's addition? I refer to:
- The bombs killed at least 120,000 people outright,
(although some believe this many were killed in Hiroshima alone)
I vaguely remember that the number of people who died in the atomic bomb blast is disputed. Some say it's higher, some say it's lower - much the same as Dresden. I daresay that those opposing the bombings want higher figures, to bolster their case; and vice versa for those favoring the bombings.
I know the whole thing is horrible. That's why I got out of the army. But can we talk about the dispute? Uncle Ed 13:40, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Sure, I agree that it is disputed. I was not trying to introduce bias. I reverted the addition because I disagreed with the tone/style and thought it came across as an opinion. The at least suggested that the figure was unknown or disputed. The problem with the article is that the statistics are disputed with in it. For example, later one we see:
- According to the city of Hiroshima, as of August 6, 2004, the cumulative death toll of atomic-bomb victims was 237,062, [9] but it remains uncertain how many of them exactly died of the effects of the bombing. There are about 270,000 hibakusha, "bomb affected people," still living in Japan.
- as well as
- Some 75,000 of Nagasaki's 240,000 residents were killed, followed by the death of at least as many from resulting sickness and injury. However another report issues a different residential number, speaking of Nagasaki's population which dropped in one split-second from 422,000 to 383,000, thus 39,000 were killed, over 25,000 were injured. Including those who died from radioactive materials causing cancer, the total number of residents killed is believed to be at least 100,000.
- Perhaps the introduction shouldn't discuss figures at all?--Gsherry 23:43, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Apologies to everyone for this notification being sent out so late, events in real life prevented me from distributing it at the time, and the Wine Project's had a bit of a lull during the Northern Hemsiphere summer. But as the nights draw in, activity should pick up again, and hopefully the next Newsletter will arrive a little more quickly....
The next few weeks are the perfect time to take photos of grapes in the Northern Hemisphere - get your cameras out! FlagSteward 15:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
