[edit] Football (soccer) stubs

I created a new stub footy-stub for association football (soccer) related stubs, I figure there are a lot of fans out there who might be interested in working on football related articles but don't have the time or patience to wade through the list of regular stub or bio-stub article titles. I hope you will help me populate this new stub category when you find suitable articles. Bob Palin 02:04, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Economy of Europe

Sorry, but I can't support this for Collaboration of the Week right now. Part of the reason is that I'm less involved with CotW recently in general, working on other things. But the larger reason in this case, is that preparatory work backfires with CotW. The stated purpose of the project is to improve stubs or make articles on topics that don't have articles.

You might want to try one of the following: a Wikiproject, a CotW or Regional Notice Board for Europe, Requests for Expansion, or the new Forum for Encyclopedic Standards. Maurreen 01:17, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] People Call Kingsmeadow Kingsmeadow!!

If you've observed their chat boards as closely as I have, you should know that AFC Wimbledon fans, let along Kingstonian fans, refer to The Fans' Stadium - Kingsmeadow predominantly as Kingsmeadow,or KM for short. The adoption of "The Fans' Stadium" as a slogan for the fundraising drive and description of how they want it to serve all supporters has not changed common usage and never seems likely to do so.So I've expanded the article at the full title and reversed your "fix" of a link.--Louis E./le@put.com/12.144.5.2 22:08, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Saw your reply at my talk page. Most important perhaps is that "The Fans' Stadium",full-stop,is not and never has been the formal name of the ground.I thought the hyphen was official but the person who moved the article to The Fans' Stadium, Kingsmeadow says it's a comma. As for Valley Parade,I would oppose moving its article to the Bradford & Bingley naming rights name for the same reason the Isthmian League,Southern Football League,Northern Premier League, and other such English football entities are covered in Wikipedia by their underlying names by which their entire histories can be covered...they do not become brand-new entities when they sign up a new sponsor. To treat "sponsored names" with undue respect is in effect to give the sponsors free advertising in Wikipedia.--Louis E./le@put.com/12.144.5.2 04:20, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)
New reply noted.I never follow Wikipedia policies I regard as bad,and one doesn't change such policies by working in accordance with them, only by agitating against them (in whatever talk channels) or by making them unworkable.I can name at least one stadium article that doesn't follow this policy and which you are apparently unaware of,but I'm not going to identify it to any apologist for the policy.--Louis E./le@put.com/12.144.5.2 18:10, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Sasso and stuff

Good job on the expansion. I sometimes wonder why people write these single sentence "articles". But good save. Anyway, if I came across two of your articles in a 30+ article random search then either you've written a hell of a lot or it was quite a coincidence. I guess since they were both football articles it was at least something of a coincidence. I've only come across one of my articles in a random search ever. And out of nearly half a million I thought that was unlikely too. Anyway, yeah, leaving a stub tag on after an article has undergone slow expansion isn't what annoys me. It's more people who can't tell the difference, or, worse, people who label every short article they see with a stub tag. -R. fiend 19:36, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] In the news

When you edited the in the news template, it got very screwed up. I'm not quite sure what's wrong, so you may want to take a look at it again. Cheers. CryptoDerk 01:10, Jan 23, 2005 (UTC)

I don't have any problem with it being listed there, it's just that it screwed up the box. The Belize image is on top of some text and the text for the Belize part is written straight down in a line. I've confirmed that other people are seeing this as well. I am going to try to fix it, but you may want to give it a go as well. CryptoDerk 01:15, Jan 23, 2005 (UTC)
OK, whew, figured it out I believe. The div stuff was opened/closed at the wrong places, and the image wasn't right aligned. Should look OK now! Thanks for the addition, too. CryptoDerk 01:22, Jan 23, 2005 (UTC)
Although I fixed the box so that it looks right, I just noticed that someone removed the link because the description of it wasn't formatted properly. Amongst other things it wasn't bolded. There are additional criteria here Template_talk:In_the_news. CryptoDerk 02:26, Jan 23, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] You've put up a copyright image

I notice your image of the New Forest is actually from BBC Online. Best to delete it I'd suggest, unless you really do have their permission. There is already a graphic which is essentially identical on the New Forest page, so it won't really compromise the article. Nice graphic, though! Naturenet 19:14, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Gentlemen's Clubs

Hi: I am not sure why you moved Gentlemen's club to Gentlemans' club so I thought that I should explain why I chose that title for the article. The London clubs to which I have belonged have all called their former incarnations "Gentlemen's clubs". Similarly, the equivalent private clubs for women called themselves "Ladies' clubs" (cf the New Cavendish Club]. A quick check of the various forms on Google shows a fairly even spread between the two phrases but I have not analysed the associations of this name: for example, I know that various strip joints call themselves "Gentleman's clubs". Anthony Lejeune, who wrote a definitive book on the subject, called them gentlemen's clubs.

Either way, "Gentlemans' club" is grammatically incorrect. Please may I revert to the "Gentlemen's clubs" title and restore the various links to that name?

What is your interest in the subject? I am planning to contribute articles in this area so we may be able to collaborate.--Theo (Talk) 19:39, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Images on PUI

Please don't remove images from PUI until such time as they can be checked as good by someone else. You can remove the tags from the image itself, just not from the page. This allows those who move and check the images to make certain that everything is good.

The reason I say this, is that your tagging of Image:E8 route map.png and Image:E2 route map.png is incomplete and inaccurate. To tag them as CopyrightedFreeUse-User, add Grunners. Thanks Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 10:03, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of Norway

Hello! Thanks for your note. Unfortunately, you are mistaken: the Norwegian flag(s) I uploaded have blue in them, not black; specifically: R,G,B=0,0,101. Different monitors may render colours differently (e.g., too light/too dark) and presents a particular challenge when exhibiting materials on-screen that are normally printed or stitched (as with flags, for example); you may want to check your monitor settings. Alternatively, I could lighten the flag blue and make it 'true' blue (0,0,255). Thoughts? Thanks! E Pluribus Anthony 06:44, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Guantanamo Bay detainees

Are you still interested in the nationalities of the Guantanamo Bay detainees. I started an article List of Guantanamo Bay detainees 16 days ago.

A malicious vandal put it into the copyright violation queue. Grrr. But the claim is so bogus I trust the administrators will dismiss it.

[edit] Beech

Hi Grunners - hope you won't mind I removed the 'beechnut' redlink you'd added - I think they're better dealt with as a paragraph on the Beech page, rather than a page of their own (the Beech page isn't overly long, and compared to e.g. acorns, beech nuts don't have very much importance (or a real name of their own!). But please do add any more info about the nuts that you have! - MPF 14:48, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello, good work on Barry Geraghty, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Barry Geraghty? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 22:55, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Sirgordon.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sirgordon.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi,

I realize you have made changes to "see also" to all the central banks in Europe. I found that you added links to currencies, but with the unit capitalized. Currency units should be lower case because they are not proper name, just like you don't capitzalize "meter". Also, you added euro to some of the central banks in the eurozone, eurozone to some, and none to the others. Please make changes that are consistent. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 00:29, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments on my West Lancs League club articles. Actually there is a method in my madness. This season I have set myself a target to watch a home league game at each of the 16 Premier Division clubs. So far I've been to 10, and subsequently I have written up an article for each club. Hopefully I will get to Eagley fairly soon, and when I do I'll expand your article. Hi Grunners, On May 24th you added a comment: ""Norway is the only Scandinavian country that is not a member of the European Union. This caused some amusement in France in 2000, when it was noted that the map of Sweden and Finland without Norway on the Euro notes looked rather like male genitalia."

Removed this. It is an error in that the Euro coins and notes do depict Norway, as well as Switzerland, and the three EU members which do not use the Euro. Grunners 01:57, 20 May 2004 (UTC)"

Altough not terribly important, you are wrong. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_euro_coins for details. cheers!

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Wombridge Canal, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.jim-shead.com/waterways/History28.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 12:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Dining club

A tag has been placed on Dining club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Question

I'm sorry but are you going to write an article about Russians in Georgia? Alæxis¿question? 07:51, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, ok. It'll be great if you write such an article. I was just somewhat surprised after you had inserted red links to a couple of articles in my watchlist. Alæxis¿question? 17:32, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi! You know, I don't find this topic sufficiently interesting (for me, that is). However, if you are still interested I could write you an outline of this article and find some sources. Alæxis¿question? 08:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Extramural

Another editor has added the "prod" template to the article Extramural, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Coasham railway station

Finally! I have been trawling through the history trying to find the person who requested this and you did over 2½ years ago. I just thought it was a typo of Cosham and a quick search seems to confirm that. Therefore i am going redirect this to Cosham railway station. I just thought that you should know. Simply south (talk) 19:27, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

It seems to be a common typo actually so it makes sense to leave it as a redirect anyway. For creating the railway stations, i think all you need to do in the least is include something about the location, what serves it and possibly the layout. You can watch some grow after a while, as long a the links from the other relevant pages are in place and that. Simply south (talk) 22:09, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Masterofdarkness.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Masterofdarkness.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:19, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Chris Owen (director)

I have nominated Chris Owen (director), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Owen (director). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. [edit] Russians in Georgia

First, here's some statistics (all the Soviet censuses) for Georgia proper, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It's in Russian but you shouldn't have any difficulties with these tables (Russians are "русские" in Russian, just find appropriate columns).

[edit] Georgia

Ethnic Russians appeared in Georgia in significant numbers after Georgia became part of the Russian Empire in 1803 (Kartli and Kakheti) - 1878 (Ajara). There were 79082 and 19273 people who indicated Russian as their mother language in Tiflis Governorate [1] and Kutais Governorate [2] respectively. Dukhobors have to be mentioned as well.

As you can see from the census data the Russian population had risen from 83 to the maximum of 319 thousand between 1926 and 1959 and then began to decline slowly to 266 thousand in 1989. Migration and lower birth rates were the main reasons of this decline.

Obviously, many Russians left Georgia during the 1990s due to economic hardships (mainly, imho) and other reasons.

[edit] Abkhazia

A great part of its indigenous population emigrated to Turkey after (see Muhajir (Caucasus)) so a lot of people of many ethnicities were settled there. Russians were among them(source - ТРАПШ Н.А. РУССКАЯ ОБЩИНА АБХАЗИИ: ИСТОРИЯ И СОВРЕМЕННОСТЬ. СОБРАНИЕ ТРУДОВ "ЮЖНОРОССИЙСКОЕ ОБОЗРЕНИЕ", # 10, 2002) and made up 2% of the 100,000 population of Abkhazia by 1897. Here Russian population also rose between 1926 and 1970 and declined thereafter. Post-independence decline was particularly steep due to the War in Abkhazia.

I hope you'll find this information useful. Feel free to ask questions. Alæxis¿question? 21:39, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Alex Cisak

A tag has been placed on Alex Cisak, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. robwingfield «TC» 18:32, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hammersmith tube stations

As the crow flies, they are about 200 ft apart door to door, although the positions of the pedestrian crossings on the broadway makes it more like 450 ft on foot. See here for a close-up map. The north of the two roundels is the Hammersmith & City line station, the south one is the Piccadilly and District lines station.--DavidCane (talk) 19:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

As you have listed Stoke as your "secondary club" on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Participants could you look at the article for me and add anything about his Stoke career?
