[edit] License tagging for Image:Beckettsamuel.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Beckettsamuel.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:05, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Apologies, the block expired before I was able to review it. You should be able to edit, for now, although we may want to ask CSCWEM why the block was set, in the first place. In any case, cheers. – Luna Santin (talk) 00:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Picture 4.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Picture 4.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Rorty.png

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Rorty.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Soxπed Ninety Three | tcdb 21:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Distorted Morality.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Distorted Morality.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:28, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:Picture 4.png

A tag has been placed on Image:Picture 4.png, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. freshacconcispeaktome 18:33, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Interesting collection of biographies that you've edited. I just wanted to let you know that I used the word, "interpreter" because it's the word used by the source. I think your edit was fine, but wanted to give you this bit of info in case you thought it important. [[1]] Regards, Doright (talk) 23:49, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Speedy deletion nomination Image:Chomsky On Referring.png

This appears to be a non-free image of a living person, used simply to illustrate his appearance / decorate his biography. Such images are not used on Wikipedia, since free alternatives are almost always available (Chomsky's article has a few already.) Hence the "sanctimonious" speedy tag. <eleland/talkedits> 17:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Please read and accept WP's non-free content criteria, which do not accommodate this image for the given purpose. The image was uploaded with a license tag which states that it is "a screenshot of a copyrighted television program." After a look at the website you linked, I do not see an explicit disclaimer of copyright, or a notice that the video is under a free license or public domain.... ah, upon review, it is available under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. Unfortunately we can't use CC Noncommercial images on WP, so it has to be treated the same as an "all rights reserved" image, IE nonfree content. <eleland/talkedits> 00:07, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Honestly I don't have a complete answer for why we can't use noncommercial works. According to WP:NFC, "Commercial use is a complex issue that goes well beyond a company's for-profit status [...] A downstream user's commercial use of content in a commercial setting may be illegal even if our noncommercial use is legal." Keep in mind that many commercial sites like Answers.com mirror Wikipedia content. <eleland/talkedits> 00:25, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 00:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
