The grunny (a green mutant rabbit, said to be infected with the "G-virus")^{[citation needed]} was a part of the 2005 Gaia Online Halloween event. In this specific event held by the popular game site, one was to collect grunnies raising their score. Three of the prizes gained from it were a special limited edition skin for your avatar turning them into a zombie, with three different levels marking how 'zombified' they were. They were also used in the comic storyline. Afterwards, many fan groups of the green mutant rabbit were created. There was a demand for there to be a grunny plushie, an item allowing users to own a grunny without having the skin. In one of the conventions the Gaia staff attended, they promised for a grunny plushie to be made.^{[citation needed]} In October 2007 it was released as a collectible item.^{[citation needed]}It is one of Gaia's most popular items, as now users can turn into grunnies as well.

Certain members are now hoping for the coming of the prunny- a purple counterpart of the grunny discovered by looking in Labtech101's reports.^{[citation needed]}
