From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats describes Growltiger as an old and tough tom cat that scours the Thames from Gravesend to Oxford. The poem Growltiger's Last Stand describes how he meets his fate when he least expects it.

Growltiger is also in the musical Cats, by Andrew Lloyd Webber but it is not performed in every production. In some productions it is replaced by the Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles. In Gus' memory, he plays Growltiger, while Griddlebone is played by Jellylorum. Growltiger's crew is usually played by Mr. Mistoffelees, the Rum Tum Tugger, Munkustrap, Skimbleshanks and Alonzo. Ghengis is played by either Mungojerrie or Coricopat.
