Grover C. Thomsen

Grover Cleveland Thomsen was a Danish-American chemist who coinvented Big Red soda. When Perfection Barber and Beauty Supply in Waco, Texas began making flavoring extracts under the name Sun Tang, Big Red coinventors Thomsen and R.H. Roark developed a unique red drink, Sun Tang Red Cream Soda.

In the 1940's, the company's name changed to Perfection Co. Ltd., in order to be more in line with a flavoring extract business. In 1943, the company was incorporated under the name Perfection Co., Inc., overseen by Thomsen as President. With about 40 employees, Big Red remains in the hands of the founders' family members. The company also sells Nu Grape and Nesbitt's and recently introduced "Red Jak" energy drink.
