[edit] History

Grove Road (or Grove Road JMI as it was then) opened for the summer term of 1973 it had 32 pupils, 2 teachers, a headteacher (Mr Hollingsworth) and a secretary. In 1976 a separate infant school was built and Miss Moira Hegarty was appointed head. When she retired in 1991, Hertfordshire Education Authority decided to amalgamate the two schools. The process took two and a half years and in January 1993, the junior and infant schools closed and Grove Road Primary School opened. Alterations to the buildings and the completion of "the link", a small corridor built out of plastic linking the two sections of the school were finished five minutes before the Director of Education arrived for the official opening ceremony on 10th February 1993.[2]

[edit] Academic standards

In May 2006 Grove Road was visited by 3 OFSTED inspectors, they reported Grove Road as being a Grade 2 School.[3] The Grove Road 2007 Key Stage 2 SATs results were well above those achieved by schools nationally. The progress made by students from Year 3 to Year 6 were also significantly greater than the national average.[4]
