Group 42

Group 42 (Czech Skupina 42) was Czech artistic group established in 1942. Although its roots could be found already in 1938 – 1939, forming in 1940.
Activity of the group was terminated in 1948, but its influence on Czech literature and Czech art was still evident in further years.
This group was mainly influenced by civilism, cubism, futurism, constructivism and something from surrealism. A characteristic element of their work was enchantment by technology - explaining why there is focus on cities, peripherals, factories and so on. Main characters are generally common townspeople.
Main theoretical base of this group was article by Jindřich Chalupecký – The World, we live in (Czech Svět, v němž žijeme).
