Grosser Preis von Düsseldorf

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grosser Preis von Düsseldorf is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,700 metres (1 mile 99 yards) at Düsseldorf Racecourse, Düsseldorf in October.

It was given Group 2 status in 1972, at which time the race was restricted to four-year-olds or above and run over 2,400 metres. This was cut to 2,200 metres in 1979 and to the present distance in 1983. The race opened to three-year-olds in 1985, when it was rescheduled to take place in the autumn rather than earlier in the season.

In 1998 it was downgraded to Group 3 level, and since 2002 it has been run as the Grosser Preis der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf.
