Grosse Hessen Meile

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grosse Hessen Meile is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Frankfurt Racecourse, Frankfurt in July.

It was first run in 1982 at Gelsenkirchen as the Ostermann-Pokal with a distance of 1,200 metres. This was increased to 1,600 metres in 1988 when the race was transferred to Cologne. The original title continued to be used until 1999, after which it was run under several different titles, including the Jaguar-Meile and the Oppenheim Pramerica Meile. The present title was introduced when the race arrived at Frankfurt in 2007.
