From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grosse Europa-Meile is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Weidenpesch Racecourse, Cologne in September.

Originally known as the Kaufhof-Preis, the race was run at distances varying from 1,800 to 2,200 metres before the present distance was set in 1972. The race was titled the Elite-Preis from 1983 to 1990, and it was raised to Group 2 status in 1989, having earlier been classed as a Group 3 race.
