Groovies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Groovies" and "Shorties" were animated "music videos" that were used to fill time gaps between programs on Cartoon Network during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Groovies were inspired by the success of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, which used similarly constructed short music videos featuring re-cut classic animation and composited new material. These music videos were based on current cartoon network line-ups like Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Yogi Bear, Superfriends, and many others paired with an eclectic mix of music from movie soundtracks, popular songs, as well as songs not in the mainstream.

Groovies were used quite frequently between shows but eventually became less prevalent on the network. Groovies have had many rebirths, the most recent being titled "Toon Tunes". "Toon Tunes" do not show the classic Groovies videos in their original form, as most have been shortened to fit within a standard time.
