Groot Marico

Groot Marico is a maize, citrus fruit and tobacco farming town situated in North West Province of South Africa. Marble, slate and andalusite are mined in the area.

The town was formed by the Voortrekkers in the 1850s and was only proclaimed in 1948.

The word "Marico" is well known because of Herman Charles Bosman's writings of this area. He described the area thus:
