Grob 109B

The Grob 109B was developed out of the Grob 109 by Grob Aerospace of Mindelheim Mattsies of Germany.

The basic concept was that of a two seater self launching motorglider with a 57 foot wing span. The basic airframe construction was in fibreglass. Total weight was around 1870 lbs with a load of 506 lbs. Cruising speed was in the region of 100 knots on the 90 horsepower engine. Though Grob made the engine, it was based on a Volkswagen car engine The engine could be turned off in flight and propeller could be feathered. The aircraft then became a pure glider, with a best glide ratio of around 1:28.
