[edit] A welcome from Sango123

Hello, GrittyLobo441, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We're glad to have you in our community! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

Happy editing!

P.S. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)

Wolf Subspecies table

Hi, I was wondering where you found the information in the table, such as descriptions and distribution. I introduced the current list (13 living subspecies) and made the maps on that page. As you can see, some of the distribution info in the tables conflicts with the maps, so I'd like to see the original source so I can determine whether it is reliable/accurate enough to make some changes (to the maps). Thanks, --Tommyknocker 00:43, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gray Wolf

Hey GrittyLobo, it's been a while. :) I've been working on citing sources for the Gray Wolf article recently, and I was wondering if you could maybe pull up some references for sections you contributed to (like Hierarchy, for example) if you have the time and are interested. Thanks, Sango123 17:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Gray Wolf

Many of the things I added came from knowledge derived from books, such as Mech's The Wolf: The Ecology and Behavior of an Endangered Species and his and Boitani's Wolves: Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation. The facts are undoubtedly located elsewhere on the internet, but I am skeptical of internet sources, and haven't got the desire to sift through them, TBH.

[edit] Fair use image use

Re [2]: Whether a rule is enforced universally or not does not change the policy. The policy on the use of fair use images proscribes their use on templates. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9. Also see User:Durin/Removal_of_fair_use_images#Fair_use_images_are_used_all_over_the_place.21_It.27s_ok_for_me_to_use_it_too. I am re-removing the fair use images from Template:Boondocks and Template:Boondocks comic. Please do not re-add fair use images to any non-main namespace article as this violates our policy. Willful violation of the policy constitutes vandalism. If you have any questions about this, I'd be quite happy to answer. Thanks, --Durin 18:25, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Unless you are gonna do something with it, i suggest you db-author nominate Template:Boondocks as well, otherwise it stays around doing nothing but cluttering WP. On the Infoboxes. I still don't like it, but technically I don't think I can change anything about it. At least they are not single use templates anymore, which was my biggest problem with them. TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 16:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I left it in place for a reason. I will do something with it when time allows.

[edit] Image:Indian_wolf.jpg listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Indian_wolf.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you.  H4cksaw  (talk) 10:31, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I do believe the image qualifies as fair use. I would have challenged your opinion had someone not already gotten rid of the speedy deletion tag.

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Bndock moves huey.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Bndock moves huey.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 12:06, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Huey Title SS.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Huey Title SS.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Durin 14:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Granddad Freeman.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Granddad Freeman.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Boondocks logo.gif

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Boondocks logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:A Pimp Named Slickback.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:A Pimp Named Slickback.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BritandBeyonce (talkcontribs) 09:28, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Page moves

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently you carried out a copy and paste page move. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. - EurekaLott 12:34, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

As the template above says, please do not perform cut and paste moves. Please do not undo reversions of those edits, especially without proper discussion. Disruptive edits of that nature are considered vandalism. - EurekaLott 14:07, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:Movie Studio

A tag has been placed on Template:Movie Studio requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks for uploading Image:...Or Die Trying - Huey.JPG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images.
