[edit] Harrison Stickle and Branstree

Hiya just though you'd like to know I've found a couple of photos for the above articles, so I'll leave it to you to put them in the info boxes. BTW thanks for putting info boxes for my mountain/hill articles, looks neat. I've got a hell of a lot of photos of the Scottish Munros the trouble is they are on 35mm and not digital. If I get a scanner at some time I'll perhaps write a few Munro articles. Regards and Happy New Year Mick Knapton 11:11, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Geograph template

In case you didn't already know, this template makes Geograph uploading a lot easier. (copied across from my talk)

Mark J 16:09, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I echo the above. Please use {{geograph}}. Why? As a courtesy to the people at geograph and as aid to reducing double posting - of which I have found a number of examples today. Also when posting to the commons, please use standard interwiki links not external ones and when posting anywhere, please use standard date format - so that each user sees dates formatted to their liking (see your last two uploads to the commons). -- RHaworth 23:27, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tunnock's

I'm seriously the face of Tunnock's. Maybe you're just jealous.

[edit] Marilyn images

The images that you liked so much have been deleted. Yes, I'm pissed too. --Mark J 21:41, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Goat Fell.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Goat Fell.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

[edit] football

The Victorian Rules folk ar trying to claim that Aussie Rules is an Australian variety of the game when it is very distinctly a Victorian variation of the football and was codified in Victoria many years before the beginning of Australia. If you share the same opinion I would love for you to come to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Football and give your opinion.

All the best

03:59, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Licinius

I can't honestly say that I have an opinion on the matter, I know very little about Australia! Grinner 10:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chew Valley Lake FAC

Hi, I've resubmitted Chew Valley Lake as a featured article candidate, because it didn't receive enough support last time.

As you have edited this page in the past I wondered if you would be willing to visit and comment/support on the nomination? Rod 20:31, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Aye, it looks pretty good to me. Grinner 13:35, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "External links" vs. "External link"

I can see nothing in the Manual of Style mandating the use of a plural form when there is only one link. Try reading Wikipedia:External_link#.22External_links.22_vs_.22External_link.22 for more information. Grinner 16:09, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

I see Wikipedia:External_link#External links" vs "External link" also doesn't mandate the use of the singular, reporting that "There is currently no consensus on which is better". I hadn't realised this was the case, so thanks for alerting me to it. The link I botched my mention of in the edit summary was to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings), specifically #Standard headings and ordering. In the case of Swinside, I've solved the problem by adding another link. Best wishes, David Kernow 17:07, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lake District fells

Ta for the encouragement. Got a few more planned in the next few weeks. Regards Mick Knapton 22:49, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism accusation

Hi Grinner, I am really concerned about a history log that implicitly accuses me of vandalism. Details on my talk page. Viewfinder 18:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scottish mountain pronunciation

Hi, I'm hoping to revise and correct the IPA pronunciation of Scottish mountains. It looks as if you did most of these - I'm guessing you used the codes at User:Grinner/Pronunciation and a list of mountains with pronunciation guides? Trouble is, this list assumes RP English pronunciation, and there are many sounds in Gaelic (and even standard Scottish usage) which don't exist in RP and vice versa. Best examples are [æ] (Scottish usage is [a]), and [ɹ] (should be the trilled form [r] - using [ɹ] before a consonant or at the end of a word sounds like an American or West Country accent). I reckon I can work out the correct transcription for most of them, but could you let me know where you got your pronunciations from - is there a list online somewhere? I don't know much about Gaelic, just have a fairly good idea of the pronunciation and a grounding in IPA, and may need help from an expert for some of them. I've made a list of hills that may need changing at User:Blisco/Gaelic - if you can add any to it then feel free. Many thanks, Blisco 11:19, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deprecated mtnbox templates

Hi. I've noticed you have added templates to a number of mountains/hills in the UK. These templates have been deprecated in favour of Template:Infobox Mountain. If you could begin using this infobox instead of the old mtnbox templates, that would be great. BTW, thanks for your help in adding infoboxes. RedWolf 21:36, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I just checked your contributions and noticed you used the infobox on Lovely Seat so you are obviously aware of the change. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming... RedWolf 21:43, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] K2 and Pakistani POV pushers

I refer you to K2 and its history and discussion pages. I seem to be fighting multiple Pakistani POV pushers who created and are persistently reverting to a version which states K2 is in Pakistan alone. They are implying that I am denying K2 is in Pakistan at all. Their user contribution pages suggest they are trolls and vandals. I am concerned about the 3RR. Can you offer any advice? Viewfinder 18:46, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Torridon

Hope you agree with my actions on Torridon and related pages - see Talk:Torridon. Your page Torridon Hills is virtually unchanged. I note your busy comment and do not need a reply, but do not want to offend. Finavon 01:57, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rugby Union Tri Nations

I have put in a requested move for the above article to be returned to its original name Tri Nations Series. As you have voted in previous move requests, I thought you might like the chance to vote.

[edit] Hull Kingston Rovers

Thank you for you input. Like many old-time fans, it does take a little bit of time to appreciate where our proud old club is now placed.

Derek R Bullamore 21:53, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mamores

Agree most of your edit improved the stub, but the Mamores are part of the Grampian Mountains (Scotland). Lochaber may be more specific, but that article is currently about the administrative area and the hydroelectric scheme not a mountain range. More work is needed here, but the term Grampians is used to cover the highlands south of the Great Glen (ie Lochaber hills and Cairngorms). Finavon 18:24, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Well they are indeed, but I rarely hear the term outwith Wikipedia. I'd not object to your re-instating it, but it seems "wrong" to say the Cairngorms and the Mamores are part of the same range of hills, except that they are both parts of the Highlands. Grinner 19:38, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the praise (again !). British Mountain articles are coming along well on Wikipedia. Would be nice to get one up Featured Article. I suppose Ben Nevis would be the obvious candidate to get up to FA standard, a lot of work has been done on it in recent weeks by certain writers and its quite good now, not long back it was a pretty poor effort for the highest mountain in the UK. Anyway "Chrysanthemum" is still my favourite Scottish mountain !!!!. Regards Mick Knapton 14:01, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject British hills

Further to the above discussion, I've created Wikipedia:WikiProject British hills which you might be interested in joining. Not much there at the moment, but hopefully it'll grow! --Blisco 22:47, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category: Australian Rugby League Player Category

Can you help me delete a couple of duplicate entries ? Or do I need to nominate them on some kind of voting page ? Incomplete article John Sutton, when one called John Sutton (rugby league footballer) is more complete; article Kevin Ryan (footballer), duplicates Kevin Ryan (rugby league footballer); article Cyril Abotomey which must surely be bogus.Sticks66 12:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Black pudding

So tell me, was [breakfast that day] actually an Irish breakfast, or an English or Scottish (or British) breakfast? I've never seen "square sausage" in an Irish breakfast, and I can't help suspecting that some class of wikichauvinist has annexed your meal for Ireland. Palmiro | Talk 15:50, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Just because on the black pudding article, it is being described as an Irish breakfast, and it doesn't look like one to me. Pedantic, I know, but when you're using Wikipedia as a means of procrastination, anything will do! Palmiro | Talk 20:42, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
LoL, sorry about that, I was the one that originally added the thing about it being an Irish breakfest. I saw something very similar on Conan being described as an Irish breakfest.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 06:18, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Barrow arms.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 13:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Donny lakers.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Donny lakers.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:55, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for commons:Image:Rugby league pass.jpg

Thanks for uploading commons:Image:Rugby league pass.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
