[edit] Relationship between Ein Sof and Sephiroth

Hi Gringo - I have tired to answer the question you left on the Ein Sof page ...let me know if I failed in my attempt...lol

Let me see if I can try to explain, it might need more clarification. (I am not an expert most of what I know is from Karen Armstrong's book, A History of God) I see the relationship as this:

Ein Sof a name for God The 10 Sephiroth are ways in which God has shown himself to humanity.

Much like each of us has a gender, race, religion, etc.

The Sephiroth are a way in which we "see" or understand God.

Does this make sense? Wjbentley 19:54, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure if it makes sense or not, i'll have to do some research. from what i understand, God and the physical universe interact with each other through the sephiroth. Gringo300 21:04, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Germanic languages

Hi Gringo300, it is normal that you find this complicated, it is.

  • Concerning the distinction between language and dialect, you can say that English and German are different languages, because Americans and Germans don't understand each other without having learnt each others' languages. However, if you go back a thousand years to the Viking Age, an Anglo-Saxon, a Saxon (German) and a Dane did not have such problems. They may have had less trouble understanding each other than some English speakers of today. If you go 2000 years back the Germanic languages were even more similar, perhaps comparable to American dialects of today. These old Germanic dialects have very very slowly turned into different languages.
  • Concerning the possible existence of a Proto-Germanic people, they might very well have existed. However, ethnicities is a complicated matter and we'll never know if they once felt like a single tribe , or if they only understood themselves as a number of related tribes.--Wiglaf 11:28, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Gringo300. I was very interested to see your note on Wiglaf's page that you are wanting to find out about the prehistory of English. I have just been working on a couple of articles which might help you. You can help me by looking at these and telling me if they are understandable as they are and whether they meet your needs; because you are probably the kind of person they are written for. You will find these at: Germanic weak verb, West Germanic strong verb, Ablaut and Umlaut. I hope you enjoy these. Please give me your feedback. --Doric Loon 14:06, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Trinidad Spanish

(in response to your question at Talk:Trinidad)
See Sylvia Moodie-Kublalsingh's book, if you can get your hands on it (the reference is at Cocoa Panyol). Spanish was spoken in Trinidad from the 1500s until the middle of the 20th century, and there are still some speakers of Trinidadian Spanish (as opposed to Venezuelans resident in Trinidad who, of course, speak Spanish). There has always been so much contact between the Trinidadian Spanish community and Venezuela that I doubt it ever deviated into a separate dialect, but that's just speculation on my part. [edit] Using horizontal rules

In talk pages could you please refrain from using ---- or any other number of connected hyphens to separate what you wish to be new discussion sections? All that does is put a line above your comments, and leads to disjointed/unrelated discussion in misnamed sections. I just renamed your latest addition to Talk:Ethiopia in what I guess is as accurate a section name as possible. It makes the talk page much easier to navigate, and makes editing a single section much less unweildy. The propery way to start a new section is == New Section Name ==, which if you look into my alteration, you'll see, is what I did. Thanks for your consideration for those of us trying to work with you. Tomer TALK 09:51, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Saigon Kick

Hi. Please have a look at WP:MUSIC and add some info to this article that shows the band fills at least one of these criteria (preferably not just the "two albums with a label" clause). Also, perhaps link to the band's entry on allmusic. Thanks. Harro5 June 30, 2005 08:43 (UTC)

[edit] Comments

First of all, thanks for fixing up a few talk pages. It's a good idea to reorganize them by adding section headings. But I came here with a question: I often come across talk pages of language articles where you are requesting more information on the speakers of the language. It is indeed a good idea to include this in articles. Have you considered giving it a try yourself? It's very educating to pick up some books from libraries and to expand articles with information that you think is needed. Cheers, — mark 13:51, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Turkana language

at Talk:Turkana language, you wrote:

I'd like to learn more about the Turkana language.
I've been studying the Swahili, Xhosa, and Zulu languages for a while now, and i can't honestly say i'm anywhere near fluent in any of them.
Gringo300 06:03, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Well, you could try Dimmendaals (1983) 'The Turkana language' if you're serious about it. Many libraries have it and it is for sale on Amazon (very expensive, though). As for Swahili, Xhosa and Zulu, you might want to try one language at a time. I would say Swahili is the easiest of the three for a native speaker of English (which I assume you are). — mark 11:14, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Hi Gringo, I noticed you added top-level categories like Category:Nilo-Saharan languages and Category:Ethnic groups to some articles that already were categorized. However, if you look at those categories, you will see that they contain subcategories, and each article that is placed in such a subcategory will be automatically contained in the top-level category. For example, Mbum language, which you categorized as a Niger-Congo language, is already a member of the Adamawa-Ubangi category, which itself is in the end a member of Category:Niger-Congo languages. In short, I have reverted your addition because it is not a good idea to categorize articles twice. You can read more about our categorization system at Wikipedia:Category. Cheers, — mark 11:11, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Military history of Sudan

Unfortunately, you won't find very much. Our knowledge of the Khazar language is frightfully limited. The best source I can recommend to you is Khazar Studies by Peter Golden. [edit] Sources for Scott Brown (bassist)

Hello, good work on Scott Brown (bassist), and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. What websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Scott Brown (bassist)? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? Thank you very much. - SimonP 04:07, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

A little bit is mentioned about him in the main Danger Danger wikipedia article, and he's mentioned some at www.dangerdanger.com. if i remember right, he's mentioned in the liner notes of danger danger's dawn album, but i don't know where my copy of it is off the top of my head. probably packed up in a box along with other cd's. i might be moving fairly soon. The actual language of Balears is Catalan language, used in the Balearic variants. If you follow the links, you will see how there are important differences between the islands. In fact, there are also a lot of different variants between zones in Mallorca, (that should be added in Balearic article, (to my TODO list)) even between towns separated only 4km! Anyway, all catalan speakers in Balears understand perfectly each other, as well as most catalan speakers from outside Balears.
Although Spanish is not the autoctonous language of Balears, it's used by a significant part of the population, mainly immigrants from other zones of Spain (which represent a large portion of Balears population, though). So, there's not an autoctonous spanish dialect.

about the same difference as between "dog" and "doberman pinscher" (i think i spelled that wrong). the turkish people is one of the turkic peoples, and the turkish language is one of the turkic languages, for example. in other words, turkish is turkic, but turkic isn't necessarily turkish. [edit] Fraidy Cat (band)

A tag has been placed on Fraidy Cat (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Diez2 16:08, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

maybe i should do some more work on the article... [[User:Gringo300|Gringo300]

Looks like I have been too fast with the deletion. The band appears to meet the WP:MUSIC guidelines; namely, it "contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such"; I have restored the article. [edit] Deletion

Hi. It was deleted for a lack of content; it wasn't more than an introductory sentence and a brief discography. A good stub needs to have a lot more info. Where was he born? Who has he played with? Any solo work? Any major tours? Interesting biographical info? Influences? There are a lot of things that you can add. - Lucky 6.9 00:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Ditto that new article on Johnny Kreiss. Sounds notable, but it's up to you to establish that. I won't delete it, but another admin might if it isn't expanded beyond a declarative/opening statement. - Lucky 6.9 00:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Will Effertz

The page doesn't seem to suggest that he's done anything notable! It notes that he has 'played with' Dad's Porno Mag as an occaisional member; DPM themselves I think only scrape into notability based upon our guidelines for bands and musicians. It also notes again that he has 'played with' Gilby Clarke. To me, these phrases and accomplishments suggest that he is a touring guitarist or session musician, who has never been a permenant member of these acts.

As I say, our guidlines are at WP:MUSIC. I think that he fails to fulfill any of these. --Robdurbar 09:40, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Well if he does have any additional achievments that make him notbale, then clearly feel free to restore the article. At the moment, though, there's no obvious reason why he should receive a place in an encyclopedia. --Robdurbar 16:19, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Category 'What is this?'

I removed your Flea edit adding a category tag for What is this? because catagories created for bands that only contain the band members and band name is that it NOT USEFUL per WP:CAT Wikipedia's Guidelines for Catagories, specifically Guide line number 2. The band members and band name already have links that associate them together, and someone like Micheal, who has a history of playing with many bands could be saturated with categories that contain nothing more than a list of Band members from other bands and has no helpful use to a reader who is not familiar with the artist and is trying to find information, which is what Wikipedia is all about. Would say a place in outer space a billion light years away be considered part of "Outside"? Gringo300 02:15, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
I guess technically it would. Generally, because of the isolation everyone lives in, it generally means somewhere big (i.e., Anchorage) or out of state (e.g., Yukon Territories) but most ideally somewhere out of the north (e.g., the Lower 48). Hope that helps!

There is nothing said on the page explaining why the Demo album is notable. Every band has a Demo, right? Most of the time demos pass into obscurity. If you feel differently, all you have to do is remove the proposed deletion tag, and (if you really care), find a citation saying something about the demo. AnteaterZot 09:14, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Mongolic American

A tag has been placed on Mongolic American, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Speedy deletion of Jack Gibson (musician)

A tag has been placed on Jack Gibson (musician) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Ironholds (talk) 22:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
