Talk:Griffith Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
as i understand it, there is considerably more to this story. Griffith didn't give the land to LA until after he shot his wife in the eye, and it was a classic hollywood plea deal/let's stuff this under the rug if i give you something. as such, griffith gave the land to LA, which in turn helped get his charges pushed under the rug.
- Well, if you have the goods, put the info in the article, with a citation. Sincerely,GeorgeLouis 00:07, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fire
Any news? -- NatsukiGirl\talk 05:21, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Still burning. The Bird Sanctuary burned, but no other structures destroyed. Only one injury. No clear estimate of acreage burned, more than 200 acresm perhaps 500. -Will Beback · † · 05:52, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Its past midnight and I've heard some reports of the Greek Theater getting torched - any confirmation? Snusinow 07:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
...despite the efforts of nearly 150 fire fighters, five helicopters and a water taker.[4]
Do you mean water TANKER? I checked out the reference link but I see nothing about helicopters or water tankers, else I would have fixed it myself. You sure thats correct? 5 helicopters and 1 tanker are very specific numbers. Kinda odd 68.82.241.63
Does information about the fire really belong in Wikipedia under this article heading? It seems more like it should go under WikiNews. There have been other, worse fires in the Griffith Park area in the past, and the reason you don't see those listed here is because they're not really important in the larger scope of things. I suggest that after a few days, this section gets pared down to a couple of sentences, if not deleted outright. Kevinmooney 16:16, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Though the section content seems to be suffering from recentism, as well it should be as it is a current event, and it should be parred after it dies down (pun intended! sorry, it works...), I maintain that the fire is a notable event to be included in the encyclopedia entry, not just wikinews. I think it is minor enough that we don't need a separate article for May 2007 Griffith Park Fire but major enough for inclusion in the Griffith Park article (I've also included a one-sentence section in the Los Feliz article). --Valley2city₪‽ 16:25, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

- I've already got a couple of sentences inthe "history" section that sum it up. Once the dust settles we might add a little and then get rid of the detailed account. -Will Beback · † · 16:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for cleaning up after me people.. any help appreciated. This was a MAJOR fire, not necessarily in scope, but in terms of geography. It almost destroyed some world famous landmarks. Our City Zoo animals had to be evacuated. Major trails used by tourists and citizens are STILL closed by a huge chain link fence that surrounds the burn area, as of the date of this letter. A raging controversy over how to use the land still continues. As a former journalist and lifetime user of the park, I would say it is a major event that deserves attention. I added details, I will leave it to you all to pare down. Thanks for reading.76.173.101.243 14:03, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Salute Your Shorts location?
I was wondering, since it is hard to locate on Google Earth, where exactly within the part was Salute Your Shorts filmed, and are any structures stil standing, like the buildings used for the cabins and lodge, and not razed, or burned in the recent (or any past) fires? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Travelsonic (talk • contribs) 04:31, 15 May 2007 (UTC).
