[edit] Flag of Fiji
Hello Greentubing,
Sorry, I cannot agree. I think rather, that the "sky blue" of the Flag of Fiji (and probably also Tuvalu) should deliberately not the same as the others in the ensign system. And if you take a look to the official government website [2], the blue is much brighter. de:Benutzer:Kookaburra
I translated your comment on de:Diskussion:Flagge Fidschis. --de:Benutzer:Head
- I agree with Kookaburra, the current shade is far from the actual 'sky blue' of the Fiji flag. Leftist 21:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
The problem stems from the Pantone specs. You can interpret Pantone 549C in two ways:
- For print: Cyan = 52% Magenta = 6% Yellow = 0% Black (K) = 25% (lighter)
- For screen: Red = 99% Cyan = 153% Blue = 171% (darker)
I prefer the latter since WP is a computer-based resource. Bartram on his World Flag Database seems to agree with the latter colouring also. The case for the former is that is more familiar to some.
Either way, they are both correct, but I think the screen version of 549C would be better. As of today the current Commons SVG of the Fiji flag is of the lighter 549C.
IMO we shouldn't edit the flag anymore until we get some vex-experts in to tell us which one is correct.
Greentubing 21:45, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- I admit that I don't know anything about pantone specifications and I admit that I am colour blind. But I know for a fact, that the current shade of 'sky blue' on the Fiji flag is not the one that I am so used to seeing. The current Fiji flag can not be regarded as encyclopedic until this colour issue is resolved and yes the flag should be edited if not even completely removed until the correct colours are in use. This is suppose to be an enclyclopedia after all. Leftist 00:09, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

- I have asked the Fiji Government's Ministry of Information Communication and Media Relations for official specifications of the flag in the RGB and Pantone schemes. Greentubing 20:58, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] check-usage
Don't bother to say - It would be nice if I was notified where this image is used--it took me a lot of time to make. Use juelich's program to find out. (Actually I only discovered it today myself.) -- RHaworth 02:30, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of the United Kingdom.svg
Anyone coming here to complain: My bad. I thought the lack of alpha at the end of the hex code was an omission which caused the flag to go transparent--I was proven wrong! Luckily I reverted myself. Greentubing 00:15, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- I notice that you've been using this image as a basis to replace the Union Flag in some of my images on Commons. Please don't use that image as a basis, it's horrendous in parts! Most of it looks fairly OK, but there is a problem with the St Patrick's cross. Apparently to save space rectangles have been used to create the arms of the cross. When opened in an SVG editor this looks dreadful and it is inaccurate. The whole point of using a vector format for flags is to accurately reproduce the shapes on them and this is far from that.
- Also, on a related note I see that the colours that you have been using on the flags you have been uploading have been altered. On the images I made I used a very authoritative source for the colours: Graham Bartram's website. He is the person employed by the MOD to do things like flag-related matters and thus he has actually designed some of the flags they use. It is never possible to get a fully accurate version of the Pantone colours on a website since they are designed for an absorptive medium rather than an emissive medium. However, I thought that the best option when using colours for the flags I created was the person who is responsible for dealing with such things for the British Government. That obviously does not apply for the foreign flags that I have created SVGs of, but I still think Bartram's site is a pretty good source for colours of those flags as well. BTW thanks for your work on things like tha RFA and RMAS ensigns. It's great to have SVG versions of those and also to be rid of the fair use files I uploaded back in 2004. If you could turn your talents to the remaining fair use ship ensigns and jacks I would be most greatful. David Newton 08:05, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- I was thinking specifically of Image:Colombian Naval Jack.png, Image:Ecuadorian Naval Jack.png, Image:Kmensign.png, Image:Kaiserliche Kriegsflagge.png, Image:Thaiensign.png and Image:Armymajor.png. I only uploaded the last couple of those but it would help clear my conscience to be rid of them! I lack the drawing skills to do the job myself like I did with the white ensign etc. David Newton 15:06, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I did not understand your revert. Could you please explain it at the image talk page? --Panairjdde 17:05, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of Canada 1868
Just to let you know that I created Image:Flag of Canada-1868-Red.svg to replace Image:Ca-1868.png. You can update your page accordingly.
Greentubing 03:30, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes: nice work on the above flag. Also, thanks for your colour optimisation for the Ontario flag (here/in the commons), et al. I strive for accuracy but, for some inexplicable reason, the SVGs I create (using CorelDraw 12) invariably yield a minor colour shift that I have been unable to rectify as of yet. Anyhow, keep up the good work! E Pluribus Anthony | talk | 06:19, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
And I can try to resolve your lion's head issue/request above ... of course it may require minor colour corrxn! :) E Pluribus Anthony | talk | 06:20, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi there; thanks for your note. No problem. As for ON, I didn't think there was an excess of code in it, since I designed the images (despite their pixel size) to be rather small anyway. To that end: I was also mildly surprised that the current image (which actually appears slightly different in shape/positioning from my last SVG) was reduced in pixel size, though I realise that the SVGs can be scaled up. In any event, it's all good! :)
- Now, if only I could figure out why CorelDraw 12 colour shifts my SVGs, I'd be happy. And I'll get back to you about the lion in a few days. Thanks again! E Pluribus Anthony | talk | 10:50, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RN-White-Ensign.svg
I've reverted to the earlier version of this file. The version you uploaded had incorrect transparency and meant that the white parts of the flag had nothing there rather than a shape there. David Newton 16:43, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CSD for images
I just wanted to take the time and let you know that some of your recent taggings of images for speedy deletion aren't really qualified to be deleted under those conditions. As you can see from Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Images.2FMedia
- An image which is a redundant copy, in the same image file format and same or lower resolution, of something else on Wikipedia. This does not apply to images duplicated on Wikimedia Commons, because of licence issues; these should be tagged with {{NowCommons|Image:newname.ext}} or {{NowCommonsThis}} instead.
Your tagging of Image:South Australia flag.png and Image:Queensland flag.png (and alike) for speedy deletion do not qualify because their counter parts are on commons. I just thought I should let you know. Thanks. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 06:41, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikinews block
I started looking at this case for you, but it looks to me like you were blocked for two hours about two hours ago. Since your block is about to expire, you can argue the merits of it yourself. I'm a little confused that you were blocked on wikinews for edits you made on the commons, but it doesn't appear to be worth pursuing.-gadfium 03:51, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- Wikinews does not appreciate the changing of images for the sake of changing image names. Wikinews articles are archived after a relatively short period of time to prevent change and preserve their value as historical records: the dozens of article talk pages you left messages on are not going to be unprotected because they are archived.
- While .svg images may be better than .png images, there is absolutely no point in deleting the existing .png images which are already in use. SVG is a wonderful standard, but it is not supported by most browsers, nor is it likely to be supported in the near future. Mediawiki itself does not support .svg: what is served is a .png which was automatically generated when the .svg was initially created. It is not infinitely scalable (I believe the largest which will be created is 700px).
- Given these facts, Wikinews does not support commons creation of work and damage to Wikinews and other project's layouts through name conventions changes. Please do not do that. - Amgine / talk 06:35, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pantone colour reference
I have just finished putting together an in-house reference for Pantone colours. It can be found at Commons:Pantone color chart. Denelson83 04:29, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed when you put colours 186 and 280 from that chart into the UK flag, you said they were "washed out". I put a little note on the chart's talk page comparing the colours as rendered by Adobe Photoshop CS to the same colours as produced by CorelDRAW 10. Which ones do you think are better? -- Denelson83 07:07, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gibraltar Flag
Thanks for your message. The original SVG image did not have a correct reflection of the colours in the castle. Someone has now changed it to an accurate SVG using the PNG file I uploaded, so all is well! Astrotrain 18:24, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Zambia old flag
As stated on the image page this is a redundant image. I have therefore no problems with its deletion. What is the process to get a "svg" flag? Rhyddfrydol 00:36, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can you help me
I have added a number of images for Commonwealth Games Assocations - which are legitimate since they are logos - how do I put the Logo licence onto the image pages? I have tried uploading new versions of the logo and selecting "logo" from the list, but when I go to save the licence box empties. It is getting very frustrating. I want to be a good person on Wikipedia, so your help, if you can offer it, would be most gratefully received. Rhyddfrydol 00:36, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Northern Rhodesia flag
Hi. Thanks for informing about the flag being listed for deletion. I would fix it, but I really don't know what kind of copyright would apply to a flag. If you want to fix it for me, I would be very glad.
Thanks again --BLOGuil 23:02, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, if you uploaded a new one, I see no problem in deleting the old one. Thanks. --BLOGuil 13:01, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rhodesia flag
delete it then .... I am beyond caring.... all I am trying to do is make wikipedia as comprehensive as possible. You have the technology to svg the image, yet all you do is tell me the flag is scheduled for deleteion.... I thought you were on my side. Rhyddfrydol 18:41, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- sorry for my rant .... I am just a bit hacked off with over-zealous wikidpedia people who seem more concerned about lack of copyright rather than inclusion of historical images. I do not have the technology to create svg images, and all I see to get is people whinging about copyright without giving any suggestions or assistance to create images that are acceptable to wikipedia. I wasn't really getting at you, because you have been helpful, but some users do not want to be helpful in the least. Rhyddfrydol 20:29, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ross Dependency flag
being a Kiwi (or at least living amongst the Kiwis) how would you feel about making a svg for the Ross Dependency flag? Heres the link: http://www.amdacplus.org/SUBS/rossdep.htm.Rhyddfrydol 19:43, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- I think there are specs shown on the Vexilla Mundi website, if that helps. Are you happy for me to bring other such flags to your attention? Rhyddfrydol 20:00, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- So that the image is not quickly deleted for being an orphan - there are some very zealous people who are doing that process on Wiki - once it is created could you add it to the Gallery of flags based on British ensigns page - under the Sky Blue section? Many thanks, Rhyddfrydol 20:02, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi Greentubing - a couple of things. Firstly - and most importantly - the flag is only a proposed flag for Ross Dependency - no flag other than the NZ one is officially used there, although my proposal has flown over the ice (thanks to a scientist friend who has worked at Scott Base). Second, as to the colour, my original intention was for it to be ice blue, though it is usually shown online as sky blue (mainly because when I first put a picture of it on the web my use of graphics programs was limited to 16 colours, which gives some indication of how long ago it was!). It should be a lot cooler and less saturated than the image on Wikipedia - RGB values of around R 40%, G 60%, B 80-100%. Grutness...wha? 07:54, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I've made Image:Flag of the Ross Dependency (unofficial).svg, with white bar 15% of the width and stars lifted from the NZ flag (which I can change if its not correct). I hope you don't me using your real name in the image description
No, that's fine. My original design had the Southern Cross a little smaller, but ISTR the version that actually flew over the ice was like the one shown, with the stars as on the NZ flag. Other than that it looks great :) Grutness...wha? 08:55, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] your contribution
hi Greentubing, I came across your image on the Wikimedia Commons, this image here [4] which is really great, thanks alot for your good work. However I have question, because the original in the png. version [5] has a different hue of red, how come there is a difference? Is it due to technical difficulties, because I've noticed that happen with svg. images... you can answer on my Commons page if you want, thanks alot. Gryffindor 22:56, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- hi Greentubing, thank you for your respone. That's really unfortunate that you are taking a long Wikibreak, I hope it's nothing serious? Unfortunately I am not adept at drawing anything on svg. so I was hoping you could help out. I'll keep my eyes open see if I can do something, or do you know anyone else who could help in this case? Thanks again... with kind regards Gryffindor 18:27, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Royal Indian Air Force Ensign
Hi I just saw the RIAF ensign flag you had uploaded on wiki ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Imperial-India-Blue-Ensign.svg ). The design is erroneous. if there is an email address that i can send a photo of the ensign do let me know via PM so that you can use it to fix the design. Just fyi the original design and colors follow more of this pattern ( http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/g/gb-raf.gif ) than the one illustrated. regards Jaganpvs 14:08, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:England-Richard-I-Arms.svg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:England-Richard-I-Arms.svg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.
