Template talk:Greek myth (sea)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There was a paragraph of text in this template that read:

Minoan and Ancient Near Eastern mythologies have had strong influences in the Greek mythology of the sea. In fact, when the first Indo-European speakers of a language that would develop into the dialects of classical Greek first arrived at the shores of the Aegean, they had no word for such an expanse of salt water that reached the horizon, and had to borrow a local word for it, thalassa.

I've got no problem with the information contained within, but I do have a big problem with including it in a template in this manner. It gets tacked onto the beginning of each article as if it were a part of the article's text, which preempts the article's own attempt to introduce its subject and confuses editors. It also is highly redundant to have this in all Greek sea mythology related articles. It should just be in whatever article covers that topic in general. Bryan 03:58, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)
