[edit] Medical background
Although Greg Baer appears to be a notable author of relationship books , I am not sure how his medical background should be addressed in the article. In an interview given to his brother, in an excerpt from a book, on his website, and on various website mirroring what he has stated on his website, he claims to have "received the highest honors in medical school", to have "established one of the most successful ophthalmology practices in the country", and to have "taught the latest in surgical techniques to other physicians across the country". There is no indication from him or anyone else when or where he went to medical school. The bottom line is that there is nothing to verify his medical background other what he states that it is. -AED 06:11, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Regarding: "Baer worked as a surgeon and taught surgical techniques to physicians throughout the United States for many years." The citation for this statement, http://www.bookreporter.com/authors/au-baer-greg.asp, is essentially a mirror of a page on Baer's website, http://www.reallove.com/about_Greg.asp. Per WP:RS, "Wikipedia articles should not depend on primary sources but rather on reliable secondary sources who have made careful use of the primary-source material." What other evidence, besides Baer's word, do we have that he taught other surgeons on a nationwide level? -AED 04:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have changed the above sentence to: "Baer claims that he was an ophthalmologist who taught new surgical techniques to physicians throughout the United States." Although he probably was an ophthalmologist, there is nothing but his word to support that claim. The assertion about teaching to others is not verifiable and is probably exaggerated. Rather than deleting the sentence as unverifiable, I've changed it to reflect what he has claimed on his website. -AED 06:56, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] changed to book flap bio
AED, You have given good input, but instead of adding "Baer claims..." I simply added what is stated on the author biography listed on his book published by Gotham. It is my understanding that an author biography page is an acceptable source. I'll continue to research this further. KarateLadyKarateLady 03:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- I changed it to explicitly reflect the source of the comment. I'm not saying that Baer was making up all of this but the article needs to conform to WP:V, WP:RS, etc. -AED 03:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you
AED, thank you for the rewrite...much better. Gotham is a reputable publisher, so this should conform now. KarateLadyKarateLady 15:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
